Default I am so mad right now...

I just got a call from my pain management doctor's office. The lady was a total b*tch. She was lecturing me that I was only supposed to take 6 Vicodin a day for the first month, then go to 4 a month. I told her that I can't function at that level and honestly would rather be dead than live like that. She claims, that by my refills, I have been taking more than 6 a day, which is a lie, because I refilled at the 20 day mark both times (and the scripts were for 120).

She said I cancelled my follow up and wanted to know why. I told her that the research lady told me that I didn't have to do it, that the surgeon didn't want to see me after the injections, since I was already seeing my pm doc too. She acted like I had just backed out and didn't care. She was so rude and was like you have to make that appointment and follow up. Like I'm trying to not go. The main reason I decided to not go was because of the money. The surgeon and the pain management doctor both went out of network, so I have to pay alot of money for each visit, to the tune of $200 each. When I go to the surgeon for the study, it is paid, but they won't pay for non-study visits.

I told her I wanted to come in and see the doctor and that I really just want to die when I am in pain like that. I got an appointment for tomorrow morning; but am not very hopeful that it will go any better. I am so sick of life right now, it is unreal. The economy is kicking my finances ass, I'm behind on about every bill I owe. I'm so sick of struggling, I just want to be done.

    Hi Kathy,

I'm sorry that you have so much on your plate right now. At your appointment tomorrow, you need to spell out exactly how you feel as you have done in the quote above. I completely understand about the economy and juggling many life issues at once.

Please talk to someone when you have feelings like you have expressed above--we are here to support you and you are not alone in what you are going through.

Feel free to call/email/PM/person-to-person chat anytime.

Kathy, I am so sorry you had such an ugly encounter. And yes, Justin is so right.....please PM or feel free to call him/me anytime. Whomever you are comfortable with. I do know how difficult it can be to deal with the financial stressors on top of being in pain. It just sucks. Then toss ole' meanie in to the pot, stir it up, and you're just waiting to explode. Please know we are here for you honey. I mean it. Don't be alone either, when you are feeling so hopeless. Please check back in, ok?

Thank you everyone. I'm feeling better, emotionally, today. I wrote a long list, letter, to read to the doctor about how I feel. I go at 10am, so we will see how it goes.

Sorry to hear you're struggling so much on all fronts. The last thing you need at a time like this is uncompassionate health personnel giving you a ticking off. These people just don't realise what it's like being a spine patient (& all that goes with it) on a day to day basis . I hope your consultation goes well & you get a good result with somebody who is empathetic to your situation.

    Thinking of you

    1993 Back pain age 29.
    1998-2001 DDD at L1/2. 10 admissions for discography/epidurals/facet injections/disc injections/RFA's.
2005 ALIF at L1/2 with BMP & good result: pain free
2007 DDD at L4/5 unresponsive to epidural. Discography: early degeneration, anular tear & bulge. Limited response to core strengthening.
    2009 ADR (activ L) L4/5.

I hope your appointment went well. These struggles are very hard. Hopefully, the doctor will be more empathetic.

    Justin,

I just wrote half a page and slipped on the backpage button sending meto the previous page. Go back, all gone.

Any way to programt he software to at least send a warning before navigating away or better yet retain what was entered into the form?????? This will keep me from writing as I have a hard enough time t formulate my thought while struggling with my uncoordinated fingers.

Kbear, I am all with you and support you. If you need to talk to someone and there is no one send me pm we can talk on the phone too. I know alot about the abuse by the medical system that comes with being a user of narcotic painkiller and subsequently being labeled a "drug user" and indirectly being accused of excessive use and even selling of pills! But sadly it is being done all the time so the office personal gets rather impersonal due to these problems. I my area it is a big problem. Try not to take it personal. We are in it together and we are all here for you.

I hope things went well today and you go your medications adjusted.

Hugs (which I can't find a smiley for...)
