    RS,

Opana is synthetic morphine. Here is a good informational link for information gathering.

OPANA® ER (oxymorphone HCl tablets) and OPANA® (oxymorphone HCl tablets) for healthcare professionals and patients

I hope you're able to stay ahead of the pain.

    Heal well,

    Bob

Well I have been taking the Opana 15mg since the 2nd and went fron 2, 7.5 mg Percs every four hours even at night I have a woken up crying but since I started Opana ER 15 mg every 12 hours I have reduced my oxy big time. The pain in the back in the morning is still bad. Taking two 7.5 mg Oxy plus the Opana morning dose and 10 mg of Valium for muscle pain. I do hope the pain doc lets me stay on it so I can possible get back to my life. Becouse if not I'm going to be 27 years old hiring a lawyer to help me find disibility I got a papper in the mail the other day saying I would get around 1750.00 a month. So thats that what else do you guys think.

    RS,

I'm sorry the pain has been bad. After surgery, I personally experienced an increase in pain--it does take some time for things to calm down and for you to ultimately feel better. Make sure you are getting the "OK" from your pain management physician regarding any changes in your medications.

Hang in there buddy--fight the good fight.

Milligrams (mg) are just a unit of weight and don't really mean much when trying to compare meds. Even the conversion charts are just a close guess. For instance fentanyl is weighed in micrograms or (mcg) (1/1000 of a milligram).

I was on Opana briefly in the past. The sales pitch early on was that tolerance built slower than other opioids and that abuse potential was less than Oxycontin. There is also an immediate acting version available for breakthru.
Low back pain became somewhat dehabilitating in 2005
Have had 11 steroid injections, IDET, Trial for nerve stimulator, PT, chiropractic trial, practically every med known to mankind. Discogram indicated three diseased levels with L5-S1 being the most likely pain generator. Post minimally invasive PLIF with internal fixation (titanium) on 12-28-09 of L5-S1. Doing better than expected. Last opioid 7/9/10. Five months pain free, then my neck turned against me. MRI on 12/1/10-- disease at C2 to C7. Only surgical alternative is to fuse entire C-spine. Diagnosed now with Aggressive Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis with cord & brainstem active lesions

Yes it's worked very well for me so far im not waking up in the middle of the night cry in pain or waking up in the morning in super amounts of pain I still take two 7.5 Percs but morning are the worst no matter what but I have been able to cut back big time on the percs witch is very goos the less the best. I have had to come off this **** before and its not fun so if I can start coming off slow and lower the dose should be ok. if the leg pain don't go away by time this is all said and done with or there is no need for pain meds like this for the back I am going to ask the pain doc to let me stay on Opana ER for the leg pain and I have delt with a shoulder issue that never realy heald after two surgerys. And I fil this will help me get along with my life I'm 27 and not ready for disibility they keep talking about I can get 1750 a month but I can make a lot more than that at the mill and the fire dept. I hope that after some time the pain in the leg will calm down or just go away but if not I will try Opana ER don't think I will take any thing for breakthriugh pain but things are going well most days did a lot last two days so was hurting today but meds help get me going.

And as for less potential for abuse if thats what your going to do you will and you take it long enuff and the point of this med is to be takinin for a long period of time and you will be come addictid no matter what or at least dependent

RS, some Spine Patients need medication long-term for their chronic pain. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Many Spine Patients require long-term medication to remain "functional" and to keep the disabling pain in check. I hope this is not the case with your leg pain, but if you do end up needing medications long-term, it sounds like you have a great medical team in your corner.

Keep your head up and take things one day a time--you are still "fresh" out of surgery.

    RS,

Like Justin pointed out, you're just out of surgery for a few weeks. Once the surgical swelling goes down, I hope that resolves most, if not all, of your leg pain.

I also like your profile picture. I have a smilar one with my son 4 months after surgery. I hope to see many more like that one in the near future (when it warms up again at least).

Heal well. We're here if you need us.
