Hooch, do you take the dicoflenac with food? Does that help chase the ulcers away? Does it help your pain? I am so leary of NSAID's due to prior ulcer from taking them for so long. But, man did they help. Celebrex was a real good one for me, but am afraid to try it again.

Yeah but they damage your guts, there's just no way around it. I stopped taking it for a few days, just had to ease up on the stomach. I worked with a bloke with a couple of herniated discs, he was on anti inflams indefinitely. I think they hit some people harder than others.

I take Meloxicam when I have problems & I've been taking it more on than off since April 2009 but I also have stomach protection in the form of Zoton (Lansoprazole). I'm in the UK so I don't know whether you have that particular one in the US but I haven't had any problems with anti-inflammatories.

In the US is it usual to take stomach protection when you're on anti-inflammatories?

    1993 Back pain age 29.
    1998-2001 DDD at L1/2. 10 admissions for discography/epidurals/facet injections/disc injections/RFA's.
2005 ALIF at L1/2 with BMP & good result: pain free
2007 DDD at L4/5 unresponsive to epidural. Discography: early degeneration, anular tear & bulge. Limited response to core strengthening.
    2009 ADR (activ L) L4/5.
    2011 Facet injections L4/5 & later on T10-L2.
2011 (October) Epidurogram, epidural, nerve root injections & RFA's T10-L2.

It should be, once a complaint is heard from the patient. I had the same problem in that NSAIDs caused a gastric ulcer confirmed by tests for H. Pylori. After the appropriate course of antibiotics, and starting an acid pump inhibitor, no more problems, at least with the COX 2s. I currently take Prilosec as it is available by generic and even OTC.
Low back pain became somewhat dehabilitating in 2005
Have had 11 steroid injections, IDET, Trial for nerve stimulator, PT, chiropractic trial, practically every med known to mankind. Discogram indicated three diseased levels with L5-S1 being the most likely pain generator. Post minimally invasive PLIF with internal fixation (titanium) on 12-28-09 of L5-S1. Doing better than expected. Last opioid 7/9/10. Five months pain free, then my neck turned against me. MRI on 12/1/10-- disease at C2 to C7. Only surgical alternative is to fuse entire C-spine. Diagnosed now with Aggressive Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis with cord & brainstem active lesions

(Hopefully more often than not) but in the UK a large proportion of family doctors prescribe stomach protection when STARTING patients on anti-inflammatories before any gastric complaints start. I thought other countries would have had a similar protocol so that anti-inflammatory medication doesn't cause additional problems. It's hard enough dealing with spine issues as it is without GIT problems as well.

I take Nexium, to protect my tummy now, after my ulcer.....but haven't tried any Cox 2's for inflammation....maybe I'll give it a whirl.
