Default Newbi thats gonna be around for a LONG time I think! (In Pain Management Mode)

Well Feb 10 I went for my second CT since September 09 and the results/ report were sent to dr early the next day and I was "called" to attendance tout suite...!

I was not given details ,he says we will go over that shortly....the scan is showing more, substantially concerning degeneration and further nerve compression at L5/S1 and the tilt to the right is not so good.... He told me has moved into high gear and is contacting neuro's on the lowermainland and the Island...as well as Alberta who would consider taking me for an immediate full assessment / consult.
2 neuros within 6 months?? Someone is taking care of me somewhere!!!

My Dr is concerned (and yes he asked what MY main concern is) mainly with halting any further damage to the nerves....YAHOO!!! I got a straight answer....On the one issue I've been scared of from the time the first diagnostic image was complete...By medicating so I cannot feel the pain (fully ...it creeps through ALL the meds I've been on) am I not doing more damage to these nerves that operate my dreadfully painful hips, thighs, knees ,shins feet and ankles that feel like they're wrapped around with barbed wire!! The dead and not moving legs when pushed to a certain point! The freezing cold burning numbness...I did not know you could feel numb yet experience freezing hot pain!? Nerves are weird!

Said I should know this week who will I will go to or if I need an MRI or any of those other lovely tests I've been reading of...before any one will see me.
I name requested two that I have had recommended to me . He said he would try but he is sending me to whoever will see me quick.
Its not good to hear that I am crumbling but it is good that it'll speed things up a bit!
I haven't a clue what I should be asking or looking for or for that matter what is going on???...any advice from any not so newbies????? or newbies too...I'll listen to all opinions....I think I have one of those major descision making times coming up here in that hopefully not too far future.
    Thanks for listening.

    Update:
I got a phone call from my Dr's office today.

It seems that the Lower Mainland, Neurosurgeon that Katie told me of ( THANK you Katie!!!) has requested my file be sent down to him and he will go over the xrays and CT scans and see if he feels he will be able to help me.

    I am amazed and hopeful.

    Hi Moni,

I'm glad you were able to have a consultation and it looks like things are finally moving in your situation.

In terms of what to ask: your surgeons will most likely compare your old films to your new ones; thus, you could ask if there are any significant degenerative changes and have them explain the findings on your films with you. Make sure to ask about conservative and surgical options that are available in your situation. Also, ask about a timeframe if surgery is indicated.

Default UPDATE: Newbi thats gonna be around for a LONG time I think.

Today I went to my Drs office and got a copy of my latest CT scan report. I've posted it as my signature. There is a lot more but I guess I have to limit to 500 characters so I compressed.
Does it make a whole lot of sense to any of you more "senior" members?? This would be the reason I hurt so badly in the legs?
Is this a treatable scenario or am I going to be in management mode from hereon in as Neuro #1 said?
I also asked for and was given the report from the first Neuro I saw in September 09.( not impressed at all)
I am going to ask for a copy of my first CT scan as well so I can compare them.
I think it would be in my best interest to see what exactly is being said on these reports and not just blindly trust the say so of the Dr.
I am patiently waiting to hear from the Lowermainland.
Symptoms:Over 4 years progressively worsening severe leg pain/weakness in both legs, hips down into feet.
Diagnostic procedures: X rays ,CT scan,MRI's
Diagnosis: L5S1 disc gone. As of June 2010 begun to autofuse.L3 needs ADR. 5 disc levels further up bulging discs pressuring nerve. Could have surgical procedures to alleviate pressure.( I declined at this time)DDD. Some arthritis.
Meds: Narcotics/Neurontin for pain.Alprazolam. RX Muscle relaxer.
    Core strengthening. Walking. Recumbant bicyling.

OUCH!!!!!!!!!! And that's only a bit of it? OK, so you're not faking ;-) I've had one surgeon suggest that I was over reacting....

Don't be surprised if Dr. M gives you a three to six month wait for an appointment...but it will pass quickly because you'll be talking on here a lot ;-) His office assistant is wonderful, very easy to talk to and helpful. She is so opposite to most ;-)

I see you keep similar early morning hours....
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!
