Default PC wants me to wait 2 months and then retest thyroid!!

Well, if you can believe it, this is what my *#**!# primary care wants to do! The nurse called me this morning with the message, but I had fallen asleep in my chair (even tho I got 8 hours of sleep last night) this morning, which has been my MO lately. I have been just drifting off to sleep any and everywhere lately. So overly fatigued. So.....I didn't get to the phone in time. Called back and now still waiting for the nurse to return my phone call. Then decided to just call back and make appt. w/ my pc, and luckily I can get in tomorrow morning at 8:20 am. My husband is going to go with me. I am so angry I could just spit!!

Cindylou, will your PC be able to over ride this decision, or is he/she the one who made this call? That makes no sense, after all the time you have spent trying to figure this out in the first place!

I found it very valuable to take hubby along with me on almost all my appointments. Not only do the doctors often take me more seriously, but it helps my husband realize that I'm not making half this stuff up too.

He admitted that some of the things these doctors say are so off the wall that he wouldn't have believed me if he hadn't heard it with his own ears. So yes, bring your man along. Maybe he can give them the evil eye and speed up the process .

Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

CL- Are they putting you on medication for it and then wanting to retest in 2 months? Which would make sense for the medication to take effect. Or are they not putting you on anything and just hoping it will be normal in 2 months? Which makes no sense whatsoever to me.

Also, you do not have sleep apnea do you? I can't remember if you were one of the one's who said they had that issue. If it is a possibility, please get checked out. This could also be the problem with the sleepiness.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I hate to see you suffering like this, you are such a good person, you just don't deserve this; but sadly it seems like that is they way it works.

Oops, just saw your post on Katie's thread, saying that they are not giving you meds for 2 months. So, ignore my above questions. So sorry, hope taking your hubby will make a difference.

Well, even after having my husband go with me to see my primary care, she still wouldn't put me on a trial of thyroid medication. She did take another blood test to test the thyroid....I guess it's one that hadn't been done yet. Can't recall the name of the test...sorry. So I should hear on those results in a few days. I am definitely searching aggressively for a new primary care. Kind of beaten down....

So sorry, CL. You have a PC doc that sounds like mine. I had to pay almost $100 to get a copy of my MRI from the hospital to take to my new surgeon because my family doctor refused to write a note asking to release it to me. With that note, it's free.

She said it wasn't her job to do that, even though the MRI report was in my file. Even bringing the head of the medical clinic into the picture to ask on my behalf didn't help. She has done nothing but stonewall my treatment since day one. But of course this is behind my back. While I'm in for an appointment she is all sweet and agreeable, but as soon as I leave the office she refuses to follow through with referrals, etc.

So you have my complete empathy girl! How dare they delay treatment like that.

CL- That sucks. Just a random thought; but I wonder if this is considered 'standard care' or 'research based treatment'. Not sure if you read the article Justin posted on another thread about a small Texas town that has the highest Medicare spending in the Nation. Basically, they were jumping the gun and doing any and all test/surgeries and ignoring the standard of care. Anyhow, with the big healthcare debate going on, I wonder if dr's are going back to that and not using their own judgement (sounds like that is what we are moving too, real fast, if this healthcare bill goes through). Not that it is a bad thing, to not do unneccesary test; but dr's need to use judgement to and not be robotic about it. Hope you find a new dr. soon.
