I take the slow release version and find the side effects less severe, I get a bit dizzy but I've been on it for ages so am pretty used to it.

I was given Tramadol early on and didn't care for the dizziness either. What I ended up doing was taking 7.5 to 10mg Percocet on my way home from work (10-15 minutes from home) and again at bedtime. Most of the time it controlled the pain level until the trip home from work the next day.

I had to bump up the dosages when the discs deteriorated more.

I could never get to sleep when I tried Tramadol - just couldn't switch my brain off but insomnia is one of the side effects. It also made me have hangover & bad brain fog. I could sleep on Dihydrocodeine but that also gave me hangover etc but not quite as bad as the Tramadol. I could never get on with the stronger painkillers but usually struggle to get by on Co-codamol. There's also Co-Proxamol & Co-Dydramol but I think they can make you a bit drowsy especially if you're on things like Amitriptyline.

Well, I think I have reached a compromise with this stuff. I cannot take it at night as I just buzz in a sleeping/waking place so I take paracetamol/brufen then but SR tramadol during the day. There is an hour in the morning when I can't actually talk. My brain is like mush and words don't form!

My husband takes Tramadol regularly and has no problem. However, I took one of his Tramadol pills in the evening for back pain and it made me dizzy and nausaus. I haven't taken it since. I might be able to take half a pill or take it early in the day, but I'm not taking any more chances with it.

I have taken it for a few weeks now and my body is getting used to it. I still don't take it at night as I am not sure I want to see how long I can't go to sleep for.

The slurred speech and brain fug has, however, gone and I "function" as usual. It usually wears off by about 3pm and I start looking at alternative painkillers as my version is slow release.

    Ho hum, life goes on!
