Exclamation Vanguard -- The Oxycontin Express (Video)

I found an incredible video called "The Oxycontin Express." It's a powerful watch about Oxycontin and the "Pain Clinic" epidemic in Florida.

In this Peabody Award-winning piece, correspondent Mariana van Zeller reports from South Florida, the epicenter of the prescription drug abuse epidemic in America. She follows the pills from the Sunshine State to Appalachia, where they are in high demand.
Here's a link to the video on Hulu: Vanguard -- The Oxycontin Express

That is absolutely unreal and so terribly sad (hormonal me cried throughout the film.) So sad that doctors are willing to hand pills out like candy, with no regard to the 'patients' lives.

Wow. That was a powerful video. Spoiler alert! Here's a guy who lost not only his brother, but his wife, to the ravages of drug addiction, who he introduced to the sport, no less, has a daughter he named after his deceased brother, yet he's still doing drugs, unbeknownst to his Mother.....who has full custody of his daughter! Unbelievable. This, I imagine, gives just a hint of the power of addiction. Unfortunately, at the rate this fellow is going, I predict he'll be dead within a year. Honestly, how do these doctors down in the Miami area keep their licenses? Is nobody on to them? And yet, selfishly, I think what a bad rap this is for the rest of us who are truly in pain and need these very drugs. Policies get made over the "bad guys" that effect "the good guys." Sad but true. Thanks for sharing this video Justin. CL

I was reading Reader's Digest last night and came across and article relating to teens use of these drugs. It's in the Dec 2010 magazine and was titled Little Lethal Legal. Very good article, worth reading. I tried to find a link online, but wasn't able to.

Yes, I read this article as well Kathy. Very well-written. I have a subscription to Reader's Digest....I just love the short snippets in that magazine. It's a good, eye-opening read if you can get your hands on a copy. CL

    Poverty + Pain = "PillBilly's"

    Urban Dictionary: pillbilly

It's a sad video thats for sure. Kinda disturbing if you ask me but this is nothing new to the ghetto, just a new drug.

Pablo Escobar could never compete with Big pharmaceutical companies even in his prime.

Makes the U.S.A look like a bunch of poor trash, IDK

I guess our country spent so much money on war over the last 10 years that we dont have time for social issues like this.

    What a shame..........
