Default Where is the help for pain management folks who want to try to go it without opioids?

This is an opinion of mine I have sat on for a while.

Where I think there is a big whole in treatment is for someone who has been in chronic pain and on opioids but now feels she/he can get by without. There are many different health problems other than spine problems and the terminally ill that need pain meds for an extended period of time. I have a fishing buddy that fell on his boat shattering his ankle. He is in the process of having multiple surgeries to control his pain without losing his foot. Ankle fusion has not held yet. Until such time as he is willing to accept a below the knee amputation he will need pain meds.

What seems to be the case around here is that a person is pretty much on there on when it comes time to taper off unless you are a street addict. Suboxone and counseling with an after hours call number and daily visits till the dose gets balanced might be a way to go. But there needs to be some form of financial aid for us middle class folks. The limited Sub treatment I had with a doc had his eye on greenbacks instead of me and was not satisfactory. In my state, the prescriber has to have some sort of minimal special training. Obviously, to me anyway, my guy missed ½ and slept through the other half of his training. My regular pain management doc couldn’t prescribe Sub.

The only ones who seem to be getting proper care that the rest of us can't afford are the very rich and the very poor. There is great potential for those who have to go it mostly alone in getting off opioids to use the withdrawal part, not the pain part, to continue in pain management or to sink to the gutter and end up using street drugs.

I took my last Percocet July 9th and still fill the call of the wild. This weekend, I came close to hunting up one of my super secret stashes, but didn't. I don't really fit into the 12 step program, I'm already a Christian. My project for this week is to pursue these issues locally. I have an appointment with the PhD psychologist I've been seeing off and on for the last four years next week and grill him for info as well.
Low back pain became somewhat dehabilitating in 2005
Have had 11 steroid injections, IDET, Trial for nerve stimulator, PT, chiropractic trial, practically every med known to mankind. Discogram indicated three diseased levels with L5-S1 being the most likely pain generator. Post minimally invasive PLIF with internal fixation (titanium) on 12-28-09 of L5-S1. Doing better than expected. Last opioid 7/9/10. Five months pain free, then my neck turned against me. MRI on 12/1/10-- disease at C2 to C7. Only surgical alternative is to fuse entire C-spine. Diagnosed now with Aggressive Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis with cord & brainstem active lesions

I'm a middle class family and I use Suboxon as my pain meds still an opiet but not a full agonist and any doc can perscrib Suboxon for pain just not for opiet withdraw therapy. See the main ingrediant in Subs is Buprenofrin with is a opiet. There is a couple types of this frmulation there is Suboxon with Naloxon as a inavtiv ingreniant they put that there so you can't shoot it up Suboxon being the one used in addiction or there is Subutex witch is per Buprenofrin with I take for pain becouse I would tend to abouse full agonist opiets with get you high and partial agonist dont afer the first dose due to the lang half life.T he down fall to Buprenofrin is that no mater what form it comes in it blocks full agonist like vics or etc.. I'm gettting ready to a have a fusion oct 20 and they will give me 30 to 40 mg of diladid ata time to knock of the subs so there is a crash corse on subs.
    L3,L4,L5 discectomy in 05'
