Sounds like snake oil or Dr Jock's miracle enhancer or the equivalent.
Low back pain became somewhat dehabilitating in 2005
Have had 11 steroid injections, IDET, Trial for nerve stimulator, PT, chiropractic trial, practically every med known to mankind. Discogram indicated three diseased levels with L5-S1 being the most likely pain generator. Post minimally invasive PLIF with internal fixation (titanium) on 12-28-09 of L5-S1. Doing better than expected. Last opioid 7/9/10. Five months pain free, then my neck turned against me. MRI on 12/1/10-- disease at C2 to C7. Only surgical alternative is to fuse entire C-spine. Diagnosed now with Aggressive Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis with cord & brainstem active lesions

I have taken Wobenzym for years and I like it. I feel it helps the healing process and I especially liked it after my ADR surgery when my intestines were sluggish. Taken after a meal really helps speed up digestion. After my ADR surgery 2 weeks ago , I felt that the bloated intestines were one of the biggest source of discomfort and wobenzym cleared it out.

    Howdy Folks,

I've never used this product, but have used Papain which is one of the ingredients in it. It's a natural digestive enzyme which breaks down proteins; you can get a good dose of Papain by eating papaya or drinking papaya juice, but I've also bought tablets. I'll check out Wobenzym n -- sounds like a good idea.

I've heard stories of ancient tropical South American tribes using papaya at the end of gastronomically excessive celebrations -- feasts -- to help them digest pounds of meat, and then waking up the next day, having a good poop, and feeling fine! What could be better?
I had recent MRI of lumbar & cervical, and digital motion x-ray of cervical area. Slight scoliosis in both lumbar and thoracic spine. Recent consultation w/ neurosurgeon about lumbar showed DDD; he said "one disc space is about half what it should be, and the rest are pretty much gone -- this looks like someone ten years older who has smoked for 40 years." I've never smoked.

I once saw some lunatic 'active release therapy' chiropractor, and when she was finished flogging me magnesium supplements and prescribing a completely inappropriate core strengthening program, she started jibbering about these proteolytic enzymes she imports from the states to combat inflammation. Obviously it is this sort of stuff.

I couldn't be bothered doing the research on biological process of inflammation (cos you can bet your bottom dollar most of this stuff is a simple perversion of good science), in my experience most of this sort of thing resolves itself adequately with a balanced diet.

    But hey it might work.

Or, in the words of the imbecile chiropractor I saw, you can have a couple of pills of magnesium and [earnest voice] 'have the best sleep you've ever known'.

At least Sarno only charges you once for the book.

And while I'm on a role, this dope had the nerve to tell me how if they core your foramina, the bone can, shock horror, grow back! Needless to say any professional would've done some simple research and found, yes bone will grow back but not necessarily to where it was before. I can just imagine this fool massaging the calf of a stenotic patient for $75 an hour, mouthing platitudes and then trying to offload some dodgy supplements she's found on ebay. Don't mind the permanent nerve damage, the bone might grow back!

Ugh, I hate shysters. Anyway, what were we talking about, wobenzym? Sounds like a hemorrhoid cream.

The placebo effect can do wonders. Even if it is placebo effect, if it works that's good. Most studies list a certain amount of positive results with placebos (sugar pills or the like). They have to prove there meds work better than placebos.

I definitely agree with the bolded part above. A lot of these "supplements" are nothing more than placebo.

I think its a great product. I have had great success with supplements, of course one has to find the good ones but Primal Defense from Garden of Life for example is another product that has helped me a lot with stomach problems throughout the years. Definitely no placebo effect.
If you take wobenzym as digestive help you can see its effect very clearly, of course when taken at least 2 hours after and before a meal its effect is supposed to be of a healing nature which is harder to observe.

Helmut, where do you buy it? I have hand surgery scheduled in November for a repetitive motion injury, so would you suggest that I use it in the time leading up to the surgery? I want to quit using nsaids a couple of weeks before, so maybe this would be a good substitute.

Yeah -- I agree that there is benefit to anything that aids in healing, even a sugar pill. But there are some very helpful supplements also; I started using glucosamine/chondroitin fifteen years ago when my veterinarian prescribed it for my dog, and his arthritis got so much better. It's pretty hard to work the placebo effect on a dog!
