Welcome to the forum Mike. What treatments have you been offered? Surgery is the last resort but is needed in some cases unfortunately. My best advice is to seek as many opinions from ortho and neuro with their long term outcome clearly spelled out. In the meantime try to get a bit more comfortable with some pain relief and try to stay moving as that will help with whatever way forward you find.

    Mike,

    Welcome to the forum.
There are many different options available today when it comes to types of surgery. Get as many opinions as you can and do your research. Being as young as you are you should be able to bounce back fairly quick from whatever route you take.

    Hi Mike,

Welcome to the Forum and thank you for your service. Since you are on the East Coast, I would look into surgeons in the NY-PA-DE area. There are many great surgeons in the tri-state area. I'll echo what Dave said: get as many opinions as you can.

I wish you the very best.

Welcome Mike and Thank You for Serving our Country, you are a hero! I'm so sorry that you got injured in the process, that sucks. I agree with everyone else to get as many opinions as possible. Gather all the information you can on all your options and then make the best decision you can with the information you have. This is a daunting task, I know, because I had to do it. There were times I felt like I would never understand all the lingo and information and would be discouraged. But all the great people on this board would encourage me and I would get the drive to go on. The day before surgery as I was talking to my surgeon and clarifying everything, he told me not to worry, that I KNEW more about ADR than the nurses that would be caring for me! He said I was one of the most educated patients he had and I attribute that to these boards and all the great people on here. Ask ANY and EVERY question you have, there is no such thing as a dumb question when it's about your spine and permanently altering it. There probably nothing you could ask that someone hasn't asked before (probably me-LOL), we seriously talk about everything... from bowel movements, to sex, to fishing, what different things mean, our opinions, our moods, etc.

Good Luck and keep us updated.

I can recommend you great spinal specialist in GERMANTOWN, Maryland. Not sure if this is close to you? I looked at USA map, it seems "close".

He is fellowship trained specialist educated by Thomas Hoogland (Pioneer of minimally-invasive spine surgery, leader of former Alpha Klinik, world-wide MISS professor) and Hansjörg F. Leu.

Let me know if I can help more...
