Mark,
Great talking to you the other night. I was glad to share what I've learned over the years and hope my experiences can help you in deciding a treatment for you or give you some first hand knowledge of what recovery may be like. Just keep in mind that no two people or spines are alike and results can vary greatly. But you sound like you've definitely been doing your research:thumpup: and are heading in the right path so I have full confidence that you will make the right decision. Let me know if you want the contact information for the neurosurgeon in my area doing the AxiaLIF. At least maybe they can explain more to you than I couldBest of luck to you and dont hesitate to call if you need anything else.
Take care buddy!

Riding 4 wheeler and playing basketball. Collide with guy in mid air and I hit concrete on one leg and then fall down. Wake up in pain cant move for few hours, fine few days later. Back never the same.
dec 2007 horseplaying with father, contained l5-s1 disc herniation with sciata on right leg, traction helps and time, pain free, diagnosed ddd l4/l5 and l5/s1
If you have other bad discs or have been diagnosed with DDD, you may want to inquire about TLIF or XLIF procedures. These are less risky and are proven techniques. By opting for either of these, it will cut down on the risk factor of future anterior procedures later in life.
I was offered the TLIF procedure until it was discovered L4/5 was fragmenting as well. It was explainded to me the L5/ S1 TLIF fusion was a simpler access but L4/5 would require either ALIF or XLIF.
Good luck to you. I hope you find relief from the pain.

Fusion and ADR should always be the last restort.
Fortunately, technology is moving forward and there are few nice minimally-invasive techniques and methods that can postpone or even avoid fusion/ADR for some patients.
Would be very keen to find out what you decide to do.
I had another MRI last week, and am waiting to hear back from my surgeon of where to , as new findings show, L1/2 show a midline annulare fissure with minor annular prominence. Could be where the ongoing pain is coming from!!!!!!
Just hope like you something can be done
Good luck.
Update is, I have been referred on to another spinal surgeon, for possible fusion.
Will take weeks just for the appointment for assessment.
