Echoing Rob, I would also do my fusion all over again in a heartbeat. I has truly been one of the best things I have done for myself in a long time.
I wanted to give you a call last night but had internet problems and had not written your number down and couldn't get to it online. So SORRY!!!! Your surgery is not until 1145 so, if they probabaly have you checking in super early to get ready. I will try and give you a quick call before hand.

43 yr. old female with 11 and 13 year old kids.
10+ years of chronic back pain (Severe R/L leg pain for past year)
DDD at L3L4, L4L5, L5S1
Herniations, foraminal stenosis and facet hypertrophy at all 3 levels
Type II modic changes at L5S1
Conservative measures not helpful (medication, NSAIDs, injections, PT, massage, chiro, lifestyle and ergonomic modifications)
Microdiscectomy/Laminotomy (L5S1) 12/10 - Reherniated 6 weeks later.
2-level fusion (ALIF) (L4-L5, L5-S1) 6/29/11

I'm so happy you made it to CA safely and are through pre-op, the last step before surgery. Get a good night's sleep as best you can tonight. You know... you won't be getting much sleep the next few days with all the check ups your nursing staff will be doing. Here's to praying for a great room mate and a successful surgery. Like Rob and Catherine, I'd do this all over again without a single hesitation. See you on the other side.

1976 - Fell from tree. The beginning!
1985 - Car accident - pull back muscle.
1985 - Spring 2010 -Flare ups off and on. Meds manage - Life goes on.
9/2010 -Pain returns, Diag DDD of the L4/5 & L5/S1 space with arthritis. .
10/ 2010 - Referral to PM Doctor & PT. PT not helpful. MRI confirms DDD, bulging disc of L4/5space. Pneumonia. Pain off charts!
11/2010 - 3/ 2011 2 RSNB/2 ESI. Relief short lived .Referred to surgeon.
6/29/11 -TLIF Fusion of L4/5 space.

Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things. Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!
