Default Has anyone heard of this doctor?

I have been doing a lot of research lately on doctors who perform minmally invasive spinal fusion and one name that came is Dr. Peloza in dalls texas. He invented a device called the sextant which makes it easier to conduct MIS fusions on patients. I was thinking of flying to get a consultation by him along with going to the Texas Back Institute. On one of my consultations, I asked the doctor about the MIS Fusion. He told me that in a 10 year study on all the patients he performed this surgery on, none of them had the adjacent levels effected at the l5-s1. They didn't need another fusion at the top level. He couldn't give me data though passed 10 years since this technology has not been around that long. He was one of the inventors of the MIS fusion. He theorized that this happens because in traditional fusion like a PLIF, all the vitals muscles and nerves are cut traumatizing them and making them weaker when they heal back. In MIS fusion, none of the muscles or nerves are cut. I just wanted to see what people thought of this approach as well.

Clinic for Traumatology in Zagreb, Croatia, uses MedTronic SEXTANT system for spinal fixation and they have great results with it. No cutting, reduced blood loss, quicker recovery... However, fixation is one thing, fusion is another. But with this system, all can be achieved in less invasive manner.

    All best

My neurosurgeon here in Chicago claims to have invented the SEXTANT as well. I think the truth is a lot of doctors help in the invention process or at least invent part of the whole system, and then all get some of the royalties from the sale of the device. At least my doc had to disclose that he received royalties from Medtronic for the SEXTANT. Odd thing is he does not receive royalties when he or other doctors at the hospital he practices at use it, just when other doctors not affiliated with him use it.

P.S. I think I responded to a thread of yours on another forum about a discogram. I have a different screen name over there.
