Default How Long in hospital for a PLIF? In tomorrow - prompt reply please

Times seem to vary from the US to here in Britain. Here in sunny southend in Uk anyone have any idea how long for a PLIF, discectomy spinal decompression. If they cancel me again I shall go mad. How long is the ususal stay in hospital - I have rather bad phobia about hospitals

I went in on the Friday, was released on the Sat/Sun, operated on the Monday and was out on the following Monday, though I reckon if I hadn't lived overseas (ie on a different island), I could've escaped on the Saturday.

Post-op I had 48 hours bedrest, with catheter and IV/blood transfusion, then got up with help from physio and walked, catheter removed, IV off, had a shower and just pottered about for as long as I could bear it.

Best of luck. HOpe that helps xx

i was admitted on the day before, i couldn't manage to get out of bed the day after so it ended up being 4 days after the op that i was released. the no bending, lifting, twisting for three months was far harder than the period in hospital! hope it goes well.

Mine was an ALIF, but I'm having a hard time remembering how long I was in hospital, probably all of the 4-5 days that Alison mentioned. And I totally agree with her too! The no-bending, no twisting rule was, by far, the bigger challenge, hands down. Good luck to you. Cindylou
