Default It's been a long time coming.... But I have arrived

Bout 18 years ago, started having lower back pain. Went to a orthopedic specialist who said I had 2 herniated discs and would eventually need to have surgery. He told me to stretch and excercise and be smart and maybe I'd get a few more years before I had to have surgery.. I got 18.
    Now, I have arrived
Pain is constant and shifts from L5/S1 to right and left SI (the dimply part over your butt ) Doctor is recommending L5/S1 fusion with peak and rods. I have done the whole pain management thing for about a year now and the pain shifts so much now that its kinda pointless. I just Aleve my way thru the day. Percocet maybe once a week if I cant sleep.
In process of getting 2nd opinion, then I will decide who gets to do what to me.. I will be reading as much as I can before making a decision. I guess I'm lucky in that the pain is not in my legs. But when the SI pain stabs at me I drop like a rock for a second or two. Would hate to have that happen on a set of stairs.

Thanks for having this forum for me to vent and share and learn in....

So is this place "open bar?" Whose buying? I'll have Whiskey, straight up please.

    Welcome Ammo

    I got 15 years with my L5-S1

I would suggest to educate yourself about your condition and get many opinions, for as no two spines are alike and you would like to have only one surgery.

    We are here to help

    Ammo,

Just popped on here and saw your post. I agree with the above spine friends. The spine is the case where more than two "second opinions" is helpful.
Why you may ask. Because typically, the dang spine surgeons do not agree and that's why it is helpful to gather opinions and information.
Gil is right; you only have one spine in your body and you want to do it right.
I think what I need right now is a shot of some medicine or something; but if I was drinking I think a nice glass of red wine would please my palate.
    Welcome.

I hope you get it figured out soon. Once the pain is so bad you can no longer function normally it's time to get it fixed. I hope you can find a doctor you are confident with and start your road to normal days. And I'll have a malibu rum with cranberry, please!
