Default Just Bought Sport 550 Inversion Table - Have some questions??

I had different feedback about the possible, maybe premature use of an inversion, although some very kind support about using it has been very convincing. Ahh, yet I'm hearing other opinions of waiting more before using it. I am now 7 months post op L-4, L-5 Fusion. The CT Scan showed at 3 months fusion HAD occurred. I was having pain last month, so my doctor prescribed traction but I could not get to PT because of car issues (too far and often). The PT people said "yeah, an inversion table could be helpful."

Well, I have not been in pain for three week and things are going well so... I don't know what to do. Some people feel it's fine and some people feel it is too soon to do the table thing. I will of course talk to my doctor in a couple of weeks, but I thought I get some more feedback.

Thank you kindly for any input. Hope the pain issue with all of you is going well. Thank you all for supporting me in the past. You have been so kind and helpful.

    Ron

Ron, I can't comment on the inversion table itself, because I really have no knowledge there. I will just say that if you haven't had any pain in 3 weeks without it....why rock the boat? It sounds to me like you're itching to use it because, well, it's there. You bought and paid for it and now you want to try it. Just my 2 cents. Let's hope you won't ever need it if things continue as they are.

Agreed CL. I really don't know enough to give an opinion. I would definitely ask the doctor and then decide.

I do have an inversion table and use it occasionally. It does help some for back pain but I have not had surgery. It doesn't seem like you would need it after fusion. When I was having PT to help my back pain by strengthening my core muscles, the PT said not to use the inversion table because they were trying to tighten up my muscles not stretching them out. This doesn't make sense to me but I think maybe the others are right about not using it if you don't have pain.
    Diagnosis:
    Degenerative disc disease throughout spine
Generalized disc bulging with mild narrowing of thecal sac in L2-L3, L3-L4, L4-L5, L5-S1.
    Moderate spinal stenosis L4-L5
    Foraminal narrowing
    Recent compression Fx at T10,T11.
    Treatment:
    Spinal decompression 2007
Cortisone injection in lower back in 2010
    Relieved of pain for now
    Hope for ADR

I miss using the teeter hang up table at PT like i did before surgery. No way I would recomend using it after surgery.

I can see where people would think using an inversion table after a fusion would seem kind of weird but if I'm not mistaken Ron you fused a couple levels which have been fused for over 4 months so I'm sure they have continued to grow stronger but your using the inversion table to try and prevent your other discs from becoming an issue right? Ones that werent operated on but showing some DDD on the MRI now? I cant wait until I am cleared from the doctor to be able to get back on the inversion table. Felt great stretching my spine out. Even if I wasnt going after a specific pain or problem it was relaxing to take all the weight and stress off my spine for 10 minutes and if it ends up having a benefit than thats even better. Nothing like some preventative maintenance to keep the spine from needing intervention. If it does cause you pain than I would second guess it. Best of luck to you buddy and I hope everything continues on the path your on

If I were in your shoes (only 4 months out from fusion), I would avoid using an inversion table. My

So if at 7 months post-op (4 months since clearly evident fusion) if a doctor had deemed your bone growth strong enough (looks solid all the way around...not slightly fused) to prescribe you traction at physical therapy due to the beginning of DDD on an adjacent level to the fusion would you still think an inversion table should be avoided....just wondering
