    Dodge Girl,

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through so much at such a young age - my heart really goes out to you.

I personally have lost count of the sharp, shooting pains coming from my back. At first, it was quite scarey and so I understand all to well how you must be feeling about it.

I am no doctor, but when I read this post a few things came to mind as to why you might have experienced the sharp pain. Obviously, when driving any vehicle you are in a seated position, which puts extra strain on your lower back. I believe I read somewhere that it puts 3 times more load on the discs in your lumbar spine. In addition, whenever you back up, you generally twist your torso to some extent in order to look behind you. The combination of sitting and twisting probably did "hit a nerve" (so to speak).

I would explain what happened to your doctor and ask him for an explanation. Even more importantly, I would ask specifically what physical limitations, if any, you may have because of the condition of your spine.

    Good Luck!

Thank you everyone. I saw my pain doctor this morning. He has stopped my PT and referred me back to my surgeon for another consult. He will also let WC know that we have exhausted all conservative treatment with no success. Hopefully this is a step forward in my progress. I will let everyone know what my surgeon says.

I hope you hear something soon too, Dodgegirl. Like others said, your WC attorney should definitely help expedite the process. Kick some ass!!!

Welcome to our board, dodgegirl. I'm sorry I've taken so long to respond. Another horse person on board! Yeah!

How did so many doctors miss those breaks??? Good lordie...never mind, I know the answer...been there, done that in different circumstances. I really hope your case goes forward quickly. Those breaks are nasty.

Try and be careful about all that twisting. I know how it is, trying to stay as independent as possible and denying that things are really this bad, especially when we can't see anything on the surface.

Just wrap your arms around that gorgeous big horse and breath deeply into the smell of his/her neck. That fixes a lot Is that a QH? What kind of training do you do? I just about decked the last surgeon who suggested that keeping my horses was a waste of time, that I should face the fact that I shouldn't be around them any more. That meeting didn't go well...there is no way to explain things to a person like that....that the horses are the only thing that got me out of bed most days...to be honest, they are the reason I'm still here. I would have given up long ago if I didn't have them to look after. They are my therapy, but you know all about that.

Take care of yourself, and please keep posting here. This is a wonderful group of people who have helped me immensely.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

    Thank you everyone.

Katie, yes that's my 12 year old Appendix QH mare Emma. She is my western performance horse. I have mainly barrel raced her but once I'm better, I want to get her into reining and cutting. I mostly train western but have a way with abuse cases as well. Emma was my first case and she has done amazing. A total turn around with only a few minor things to tweak. I also have a 25 year old Arabian gelding named Khlassi. He is my trail horse and I use him as a lesson horse as well. He is great with small children. He takes extremely good care of children and beginner riders.
Luckily my surgeon understands my horse passion and is willing to have me use them in the later stages of recovery. I'm hoping to hear from my surgeon sometime early this coming week.

Again, thank you all so much for your kind words
