    Default Sacroiliac joint fusion

    Hi all, I am new to this site and have been referred by a current member - Cindylou (Thanks).

    My wife is due to undergo the first of 2 operations for bilateral sacroiliac joint fusion on march 9th. She has been diagnosed with mechanical bilateral joint dysfunction.

    I am hoping to here from people who have had the same or similar surgery and here their stories.

    All help will be much appreciated, I will update my signature with my wife's full condition when i have a little more time.

    • January 2000 MVA passenger, used jaws of life to retrieve me, neck injury and months of PT
    • June 2001 Bicycle accident, 2 compression fractures at T12/L1, Vertebroplasty Sept. 2001
    • April 2006 right hip, labral tear and repair
    • April 2007 3 level ProDisc @ L3/4, L4/5 & L5/6✷ ✷Lumbosacral transitional vertebra; Dr. Rudolph Bertagnoli
    • July 2, 2008 ALIF & Laminectomy @ L6/S1
    • July 30, 2008 re-opened 28 days later to remove bone cement that had leaked onto S1 nerve root
    • August 2008 Pulmonary embolism, double pneumonia, collapsed left lung, re-hospitalized 1 week
    • March 10, 2009 Right SI Joint Fusion
    • April 27, 2010 2nd right hip arthroscopy to remove adhesions and release psoas muscle
    • September 30, 2010 lumbar facet rhizotomy
    • December 9, 2010 12 bilateral lumbar trigger point and steroid injections
    • December 23, 2010 12 more bilateral trigger point injections w/o steroid
    • February 15, 2011 ESI bilaterally in lower lumbar...relief only for few days. Considering 1 more.
    Did Spinal Cord Stimulator trial from 5/11/11-5/17/11 with excellent results; Spinal Cord Stimulator surgery is Monday,

    2011 Aug PLIF L4/L5 - L5/S1 both adr in situ
    2010 May - Discogram on L2/L3 & L3/L4, neither pain generators
    2009 May - Failed revision fusion on L5/S1 with Charite ADR in situ
    2008 Caudal epidural exacerbated nerve symptoms. Prolapse L2/L3
    2007 L5/S1 Facet deterioration
    Brilliant 5 years, no pain only minor motor problems and residual nerve damage
    2002 March - ADR Charite - L4/5, L5/S1
    2000 Disc prolapses L4/5, L5/S1

    Hi there, We are just outside wigan so very close to you. Yes she is having it done on the nhs we we could afford private though. Ive done lots of research and we are really excited about the op as we have been going through this crap for the best part of 3 years.

    Hope it goes well. The NHS is the same surgeons just without the nice carpets (.oh and the obligatory 18 week wait for everything!). Is it in your local hospital? I had my last surgery at Salford Royal (Hope)

    Glad you are here and sorry you have to be here. CL is a smart lady and has offered good advice to many members.

    Diagnosed with DDD in Nov, 2007. MRI, EMG
    C3/4 C4/5 C5/6 C6/7
    Surgery 06.04.08--C5/6 and C6/7 w/Prodisc
    C4/5 deterioration progressing quickly
    MRI on lumbar shows disc herniation at L5/S1, stenosis at L3/4, L4/5, spondylosis and DDD at L2 through S1 in July, 2009
    Nerve Root, Facet Injections and Epidural every 3 months. Ongoing treatment for continued degeneration.

    Yes it is our local hospital (Ormskirk) and the surgeon is Mr Ampat. I hate that bloody 18 week waiting list lol
    My wife is 33 years old.
    Sept 2007 woke up one morning and could not move
    Oct 2007 diagnosed with Sacroiliac joint dysfunction
    Nov 2007 had SIJ Injection
    Symptoms returned July 2008
    (serverly disabled now with extreme pain)
    Now diagnosed with Bilateral Sacroilac Joint Dysfunction
    Serious fall, Nov 2008 second SIJ Injection (Failed)
    2 more serious falls
    Numerous appointments with Neurology, Rhuematology
    Aug 2009 3rd SIJ Injection (Successfull)
    SIJ Fusion on right side due 9/3/2010

    I was born in Ormskirk, still have family in Southport! Mr Ampat sounds good, some research on SI injections and RTA published.

    I sometimes feel like I am filling in time between the 18 week waits!
