Default Slippin & Sliddin (Slipped and Fell One Month Post Fusion)

I had just about made it to 28 days post-op when I had a bit of a setback that I hope didn't bust nuttin. The past Sunday it RAINED around here. The look out my window and the sound was one of a cow peeing on a flat rock.

I got caught out waking my Miniature Schnauzer name Jack in my boots that were not made for walkin, opposite the ones owned my Nancy Sinatra. Own the way back in I picked him up to keep him out of the rain with me under an umbrella. Then comes the slick spot. Umbrella, dog, and me go in three different directions. I was scared for the possible effect it might have do on my fusion and internal fixation cause it hurt worse and I was doing really well. Yesterday had leg pain all day and I had never had that before. Thank the Lord, today has been much better but no as good as before the fall.

Has this every happened to anyone else?
Low back pain became somewhat dehabilitating in 2005
Have had 11 steroid injections, IDET, Trial for nerve stimulator, PT, chiropractic trial, practically every med known to mankind. Discogram indicated three diseased levels with L5-S1 being the most likely pain generator. Post minimally invasive PLIF with internal fixation (titanium) on 12-28-09 of L5-S1. Doing better than expected. Last opioid 7/9/10. Five months pain free, then my neck turned against me. MRI on 12/1/10-- disease at C2 to C7. Only surgical alternative is to fuse entire C-spine. Diagnosed now with Aggressive Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis with cord & brainstem active lesions

BTW: I added a few words to the title of your thread so that it is easier to find.

Well, I'm glad that you are feeling better today.

Yes, this happened to me after my two-level artificial disc replacement. I was actually "log rolling" out of bed a couple of weeks after surgery. I rolled myself off the bed and directly onto the floor. Before I could put my legs under me, I was already on the floor. Ridiculous, eh?

I was sore for a week. I also emailed Drs. Bertagnoli and Fenk-Mayer to make sure I didn't do any "damage."

I would let things settle down and see how you are feeling in a couple days (you'll probably be really sore on days 2 and 3 after your fall). If you are experiencing continued pain or "new" pain, I would follow-up with your surgeon.

    I hope you feel better.

Oh, a subject near and dear to my heart

I swear I have lost count of the number of falls I have taken, except remember the last one this past weekend. I was stepping backwards to get a good picture of my new sleigh in the builder's shop and caught my ankles on a steel rod at just the wrong height, and fell backwards on the cement floor.

Thankfully (not) my middle back broke the fall, as I landed on the sharp edge of a big wooden beam. I should just have klutz tattooed on my forehead Other than a bit of bruising, I was no worse for wear though...someone is looking after this ol' broad

And here I thought I was safe after the snow and ice disappeared.....guess I have to watch out for the daffodils now

So how are you doing now Jack?
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Add me to the list. I fell backwards over a bench while watering plants. The hose got tangeled around my feet and down I went. I managed to fall on my side and laid there for a few munites. I collected myself and was sore for a week or so. The prior trip was down the stairs slipping half way and then missing the landing. I jamed my leg and hip. Had a big bruse on my butt. Couldn't sit for 2 days. I now use a cane to help keep me steady and upright. I have had plenty of misteps however the cane helps a lot. My 5 year old grand daughter hadn't seen me with my cane and asked what happened "gramps." Not wanting to worry her I said that I just needed a little help. She replied, "that's OK Gramps, I think you are getting ready to meet Jesus." While the pain is still there, my grand daughter wants me to be in the right place!
