Since my Laminotomy and discectomy L5-S1 left will take place today in NYC, and I'm too nervous to sleep, I thought I'd take this moment to thank you ALL for paying it forward! I haven't posted much on this site but I have read many helpful posts and made a few Uniquely understanding friends who have been able to guide my focus, calm my nerves, and commiserate/validate my feelings through to this day.
Before finding this site the only experienced person I could call, and I did, was my brother's ex-wife's little sister, and her fusion was almost 30 years ago. LOL While it Was a helpful call, so much has changed in back surgery over the years making your Current experiences that much More valuable! So in case I don't make it.... <--NO NO NO, just kidding!!Seriously...Thank you. I'll let you know how my surgery went and I'll do my best to pay it forward too.

Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things. Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!
Hello All,
I am two days past surgery and very grateful for your friendship and advice. I ate light the day before surgery, which for me means a regular breakfast and lunch and then a simple soup for supper. I stayed away from potatoe and eggplant as I read somewhere that they can prolong anesethia symptoms, and I brought sugar-free vitamin C drops and cough drops along with chapstick that proved most valuable to my post-surgical recovery. My throat was so parched I had to suck on a vitamin C drop just to wet my vocal chords enough to speak.![]()
I didn't meet up with Genn and I look forward to her recovery updates, but understandably her surgery was much more involved than mine and it may take her longer to get to a point where she can post messages. So again, many thanks for being there!
