    everyone!

My name is Joanna and I am Greg's fiance....he's getting ready to have his fusion surgery (ALIF) on June 18th. I wanted to say hi to everyone and thank you all for being so supportive to him. You all have done a lot for him (I know, he's always on this site and talking about you all the time) and I can't thank you enough for being there for him and giving him the support he needs. I dont have spine issues but I can only imagine how it feels...I've been with him long enough to have an idea.

I know you all mean a lot to him and he was really worried about not being able to keep everyone up to speed during and after the surgery so thats what I'm here for. I love him so much, he means the world to me and I dont want him to have to worry about anything while in the hospital so I'll be here to keep you all posted as to how things are going. I remember him saying June was fusion month so good luck to everyone going under the knife this month. I was in the surgical technology program this year at college and really hope the doctor will let me scrub in on his surgery or at least watch. That would be so cool and then I wouldnt have any issues with letting everyone know how it went.

    Good luck to everyone!

    hI Joanna,
Thank you so much for helping out your finance, Greg.
We are all here to support him. Sometimes I also like to give him some comic relief. He's a sweetheart and cares for everyone here. He is always trying to help out a new member. He is very good with all the medical jargon. He makes us all feel wonderful about our surgeries. You are both lucky to have each other. If you can scrub in that would be perfect. I have seen the surgery on You Tube and have talked to people that have had it. I hope you will be able to get back to us. My surgery is 5 days later. Greg is really excited about his. I am not that excited about mine but I know it is a necessity. I was doing yard work today and I thought I would die out there. Please get back to me by either email or PM or just post it. Thank you so much since you are not only doing Greg a service you are helping us all out. yeah Looking forward to hearing from you whenever you can. Thanks so much for giving us a headsup. Carmen from Chicago

Wow you are brave. When my hubbie had a major op I went to pieces, my daughter had to take over being the grown up and talking to Doctors and stuff.

Don't forget to take care of yourself, you are a vital part of him getting through this time. If you need anything or just want to offload PM me.

    HEY BABY!!!!

So nice to see you on the forum....I really am the luckiest guy in the world. Thank you everyone for your kind words. She's been bugging the hell out of me to ask the surgeon if she could scrub in on the surgery. She's got all the gown equipment and everything needed....hell, if she wanted to she could prep the OR and do it right! I know she would love it and I'm gonna try my hardest to make it a reality. I love her and all of you so much for the continued overwhelming support. Thanks!

What a special couple you are I don't think I could have made it through my surgery without my hubby. Having all that extra education re: the OR will be a godsend. Knowledge takes away the fear, at least it does with us.

Awesome to meet you and I hope we hear from you often
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Greg, I might have missed this in an earlier post, but I was wondering if you are having two incisions for your two levels of fusion as I did, or just one?

    HI CindyLou,
Wanted to ask you what you are taking for psorsis relief. I have it spelled wrong but I think you will know what I mean. The doctor said that he thinks the only pain I will have is with this muscle since it will be bruised th and otherwise effected by the surgery besides the two surgical sites. You can email me or send me a PM. Thanks, Carmen

Hi, I think it was Katy, you said and this is a paraphrase. Eduction or maybe you said knowledge will set you free. I believe in that so much. After I spoke to someone in the area that had the surgery, I felt so much better. Thank you for your good thoughts. Carmen
