Default XLIF/DLIF Lateral interbody patent lawsuit- Medtronic wins big over Nuvasive

I was interested in the patients view of this lawsuit but I didn't see the topic anywhere.

Medtronic Wins $101 Million Award From NuVasive Over Spinal Device Patents - BloombergBasically, this is a HUGE blow to Nuvasive who really built their business around the XLIF, spent huge amounts of money converting surgeons to the lateral approach, and 100 million dollars from a company who A) only makes about 250-300million in sales a year and B) hasn't ever been profitable... could be crippling.

Interestingly the patent reads very very broadly and I wouldn't be surprised if once this lawsuit is completed, you will see almost every other device company with lateral interbodies hit with similar lawsuits/license requirements.

Thanks, MDE. I was thinking the same thing regarding other companies when I read the article. It should be interesting.
