Sounds like the knee to me. It seems feasible that it could be scar tissue. A friend of ours just had to have his knee re-repaired a couple of years ago. He had torn is acl in his teens and over time, I guess it just needed another fix.

My youngest son has been complaining of his knees hurting for awhile now (months). Really hurting. He is totally in shape, and actually does landscaping for his summer job. He thinks the very first time he noticed a problem was last summer when he was doing outdoor painting and the owner of the firm bought him and a bunch of the other college kids cheap work shoes. That is his first recollection. Then fast forward to this past February when he began complaining again. I took him to my knee doc (his too, when he tore his acl in junior high football and had it repaired) and had x-rays done. The doc said there wasn't anything showing up, and after watching him walk, he felt the problem was coming from his left foot. He seemed to not complain much and then when he began complaining again I sent him to a foot doctor. (keep in mind he is a senior in college and doesn't live at home, so I only know how he's doing when he tells me over the phone) The foot doctor wasn't alot of help, except to say his left leg seems to buckle in when he walks. This is the same knee/leg he had the acl repair on. And recommended, if it didn't improve on its own, he might need orthotics. So now fast forward to last night and he told me the pain was so bad he couldn't sleep last night. His knees were killing him. He's not sure he can even go to work tomorrow due to his knees. (this kid is not a slacker...loves money, loves to work) I am completely stumped. So, right now he came home, cuz you know how you need your Mom when you hurt. No matter the age. And my husband (the italian cook in the family) is cooking up a storm for him right now, of veal marsala, mushrooms, side dish of pasta (always)
and some corn on the cob. I am thinking I will call a Sports Medicine Specialist tomorrow and try and get him in. Is it possible he has scar tissue built up from his knee surgery when he was in jr. high? Could a foot problem really be making BOTH of his knees hurt so much? Is his gait compensating so much from a foot problem that his knees are hurting??? I am just stumped and hate to see my 21 year old in pain. Any thoughts anyone? I will get on the phone tomorrow but it just seems like we haven't had any progress since February as to the CAUSE of his knee pain.

CL, I'm sorry to hear about your 21-year-old son is in pain. The questions you ask in your post above are very good and I would write them down so that you can bring them up with the Sports Medicine doctor.
The appointment with the Sports Medicine doc should be very revealing. Let us know how things go.![]()
