Hand question....

Can anyone take an educated guess why my hand (right, dominant one), at the base of my pinky finger, palm side up, started showing acute signs of swelling? Palm side down, it is also swollen and extremely painful over the last knuckle, flip side of baby finger side. Came on suddenly last night, or so it seemed. This isn't related to my spine, is it?

Now I am feeling the pain from my right elbow all the way down to my pinky finger...I recalled the other day hitting this same right elbow, not once, but twice, as I went through several doorways with a box. My pinky finger is completely numb. And I cannot make a tight fist either due to the pain. Could this be Ulnar Nerve issues Justin? Gil? Anyone?

Since you mentioned swelling above, I thought of gout. However, it most definitely sounds like an ulnar nerve irritation especially in light of you hitting your elbow twice. It should fade with time.

Is your ring finger numb on one side only?
Ulnar nerve entrapment will cause your pinky and ring finger to be numb also the outside of your palm.
If you hit your funny bone you feel that tingling, Its your Ulnar nerve, as for the loss of strength that is also possibly a sign that the ulnar nerve may have been pinched?
How hard did you hit your elbow?
Let me know how you are feeling I took some advil and it helped a little.

Hard to tell Gil. It could be numb on one side....but it also really hurts. Not sure how something could be numb and hurt at the same time. I guess it's possible. I banged it pretty hard, one of the times....I remember raising my voice and saying OWE! The second time I banged it, uh...what I said isn't publishable on this forum. I like the idea of it clearing up and going away on it's own, Justin.....I'm gonna hold that thought! Thanks again for the support you guys.

It sucks when it seems like one thing after another keeps happening, and when you already hurt in the first place, the pain always seems just that much worse. I hope it clears up quickly, Cindylou. You already have enough on your plate.
