Default Has anyone had a CNS leak following lumbar surgery

    Hi,
I had a laminectomy and bilateral foraminoty from L3 to S1 and a discectomy at L4-5 a few weeks ago. I had some severe back pain while walking and developed a severe headache. It lasted over 24 hrs. When the nurse came to check my blood pressure, it was 188/110. She sent me to local hospital and they gave me morphine and catapress and got it down. My husband says there is a pencil like swelling beside my incision on left. The neurosorgeon wants me to lie flat in bed with an abdominal binder for next 24 hours. I am going to see him next week. If anyone had this what symptoms did you experience? How do they diagnose and treat it? Thanks so much! MaryAnne

    Hi MaryAnne,

I'm sorry that you've been dealing with this. Here's some information that might be helpful: Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) Leak -- MedlinePlus. It explains some of the common causes, symptoms and treatment for a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak.

Good luck and I do hope you feel better soon!
