Hi Mary
Ive been on amitriptyline for years now which is for nerve pain but also helps for depression. It also helps with sleep so you may have to watch that if you have someone to look after at night. I find its very mild and doesnt make me drousy the next day as I take it at night. My pain specialist also adds it to an ointment that I apply for pain which is very localized. Ive found it also works best at low doses of about 25mg as the higher doses had side effects that made me tired. Its also only one tablet with several uses. I dont feel depressed at all but am happy to take an anti-depressant as I am suffering chronic pain and are aware that a positive attitude and just being happier helps reduce and make the pain bearable. Great to hear you are standing up to your doctor. No one should be made to suffer in pain when something can be done to help them.
Best of luck,
Mark
