I had a "spiney" friend of mine send me an e-mail the other day & wanted to know how it felt to be "cured". I told him I was in 75% less pain but I'm in no way cured.

I had a neighbor who once bought me a book about "using a positive mind to free you from pain".

Any time my mom asks me how I am doing & I tell her, she proceeds to tell me how bad she feels & it seems like she is trying to "out do" me in the pain/discomfort department.

My previous boss would have me "burst" the continuous feed bills even though she knew I shouldn't be lifting them. After a while I guess she grew a brain & stopped having me do it. She would always talk crap about me behind my back. So glad to be away from that psychotic witch!

    That's just a start.....

Don't you just "love" when pain becomes some type of competition??? Or even, when someone says they hurt, but try to show empathy by stating "Oh. But I know it's not as bad as you are."

My basic reply is that "pain is pain." It doesn't matter if it is from a bad hangover, hangnail, strained wrist, bad back, or half your body missing. Pain simply sucks!!!

It's not a competition, and it is a shame when anybody hurts, no matter what their pain level is!

I have noticed this same thing to, post-surgery. Everyone just assumes I'm all better now. I just told my grandma today that I knew going into this that I would probably not get 100% relief and still have pain. I then get the usual, well, are you doing therapy? You're not on those drugs anymore? It's definitely frustrating.

I also have had people compare pain to me, like honestly, I don't give a crap how much pain you are in; because I am in so much pain that I can barely stand here talking to you, much less waste my energy seeing 'who's is bigger'

I've had a pretty ****** attitude lately, just mad at the world. Sick of stupid questions and rude comments. I'm sure I am less than pleasant to be around. I try to keep the 'best of me' for my kids and hubby, if anything is left, then I may try to be nice to others; otherwise, they are out of luck!

People equate surgery with "curing" what's wrong. They often don't realize that surgery is the end of the road and that even though it can make you better, there is a significant chance that it can make you worse. One thing is for certain: your body is definitely not the same afterward and forever changed.

This is so true. I still get that "new" pain that showed up after the surgery if I bend down too much or if I sweep the floor or vacuum. I also still have that weird abdominal discomfort since the surgery. My husband was rubbing my stomach this morning & I had to tell him to stop because it bothered me that much.
