Default Rectal pressure but can't produce.....help

Sorry for the graphic topic guys, but am hoping someone may have an idea. I have been sitting on the pot feeling an intense pressure to have a bowel movement for over an hour, but nothing is happening. I am extremely bloated and it feels like I can't get off the pot, because any second I am going to poop, but nothing is happening except discharge of mucus....again, sorry. I have had periods of constipation before, but nothing like this. My husband brought me a saline enema, but I could not retain any of the fluid in me. I tried a suppository after that and, same thing, it just slipped right out. I am not having any gas, some gurgling tho in my stomach. I feel sick and am worried it could possibly be a bowel obstruction or impaction. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I hate to go to the ER, but I need some direction. Maybe I should see if there is a nurse line my husband can call. Does this sound like a fecal impaction? I should mention this morning I had some stool pass, but nothing major. I suppose the impaction could be coming from my upper intestinal bowel, hence, a small stool passing.

Thank-you Jamie. Clearly, not a topic anyone wants to talk openly about. Yes, I saw a doctor. We started at Urgent Care, but they sent us on to the ER. I had an impacted colon and won't bother with the nasty details, but they slowly got things moving again after 6 hours. That was what I would classify under the "not alot of fun." Oh, the side benefits and joys of spine patients.

Cindy, I'm glad you've gotten relief. I can imagine that that was very uncomfortable.

I started a reply yesterday but my keyboard crashed for a bit...sorry, I didn't mean to leave you hanging.

I didn't have any remedy for you unfortunately, just a comment that I understand how dangerous impaction can be. I can only compare it to my animals (as always) and it can literally kill a horse within hours. My cat had a similar problem because of dehydration...not enough fluids and he is an old guy, and had to have emergency treatment at the vets, or risk rupturing his intestine. So I take it seriously.

As unpleasant as the whole event was, I'm glad that it was resolved fairly quickly. Hang in there.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Oh, no problem Katie. I wasn't referring to you specifically at all. It's just not a very pleasant topic, that's all. I was worried about how serious it could be too. I just so did not want to go to the ER, but glad I did in the long run. I sure did not have the equipment they had to get things moving again! Thank-you Jamie, jss, and Justin too.

    CL,

After I got back from Stenum I had a nasty bout with constipation. After things got moving again I started eating Pringles lite (with Olean oil). That kept me moving until I was completely off of the opiates.

Glad to hear things are better. I think Aetna would've sent me to Roto-Rooter ILO the ER.

    Hi CindyLou,

I've been there too, and I'm so sorry you had to go through that! Wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy...

Bob, is it true? Did you just provide me with a perfectly legitimate excuse to eat Pringles? I'm going to run (ok, limp...) to the store straight away!

Pringles lite Bob, really? Awesome! (I suppose I won't stop my other interventions either, just in case! haha)
