    Default Slipped in the shower...........OUCH!!

If you can believe it wednesday morning I woke up and had a shower before Amiah woke up ( I always try to get my showers in when she is sleeping) so what do you think happened, I slipped and fell in the shower landing on the right side of my butt/back and hurting my left wrist/thumb. I think I probably layed there for about 20 minutes crying before I even ATTEMPTED to get out. I couldnt scream for help, no one is there with me, just my baby. IT WAS TERRIFYING!!! I think it took me about 20 minutes to figure out a way to get myself out of there. The pain was crazy, dont know how I made it out but I did, must of been the adrenaline!!

Anyways, here it is Friday and I am STILL in excruiating PAIN, in fact I think I am getting worse as the days go. The day it happened I hurt, but NOW I am not moving!! I am bruised on the right side of my low back, butt and hip. Also, it hurts to use my left thumb/wrist. Not really sure what I should do.

I have been using the ICE ICE ICE ICE ICE ICE ICE ICE!! I TRIED 50 times to call my dr only for it to be busy, when I FINALLY got through, they told me he is on vacation until the 7th of August, GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

So, do you think my luck could get any worse!!! I do not know what to do!!!

UGH!! I am SO FRUSTRATED and SICK of all this happening to ME!! I CANNOT take it anymore!!! HONESTLY!!

Oh Mary, I'm so sorry. I can't imagine how horrifying that must have been. Do you have any other doctor you could see? Or could you go to a minor emergency center or emergency room? If you can't move, I would definitely have it checked out, to make sure that you didn't break anything, pull muscles or injure your spine even more. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

I second Kathy's recommendation Mary. Can you access an emergency room in Canada? I know your healthcare system isn't the best, so I don't know what's available on a "quick" basis. You should get it looked at, and your wrist too. You could easily have fractured it and/or your thumb in the fall. Don't want to alarm you, but. My prayers are with you.

Mary, if you can't move much at all, call an ambulance. It won't cost you anything, and the only thing you have to worry about is your little girl. Can you call someone, a neighbour, etc. to come over or come with you?

This is nothing to mess with, and you are in a bad spot being alone right now. Please take some action.

    Hi Mary,

I hope you feel better. More often than not, you would know you broke something. Hopefully, it is just a bad bruise and the inflammation, swelling will get better with time.

    Have fun with your friend.

    Mary,

I have broken my thumbs several times and my brother broke both wrists once. Each time it was obvious that they were broken by the deep purple bruises and heavy swelling that formed. If you have small bruises on your wrist or thumb, than they are most likely sprained. I broke some ribs last summer and the pain was absolutely unbearable, especially while breathing. (*Gotta do that). The doc only "wrapped" me tight and sent me home.

The point I'm getting at is what Justin said. If there was something broke, you would definitely know. I would get yourself checked out when your friend arrives, just to be sure and to help ease your mind. Please keep us updated on this.

    You are in our prayers.

Mary, I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to panic you. What I read was that you could barely move, and in that state, you cannot lift or look after your daughter very well. If that isn't the case, and especially since your friend is coming, then perhaps you can reassess when she gets there.

Is the pain from bruising or have you hurt your back more?

If you have so much pain that you can't function, then getting to outpatients may get you in to see a doctor who can help. Tell him about your situation, you are alone with a baby, you lost your husband, etc. Exactly how big is the bruising? The pain should level out within a day or two, not continue to get worse, especially since you are icing it. Be careful not to burn your skin with too much ice on for too long though.

I understand the frustration of not getting in to see a family doctor for weeks. It is almost criminal.

    Please keep us posted.

    Mary,
Are you moving at all? Like, can you move; but it hurts? Or can you not move? If you can not move, then I would get it checked out for sure (that's how I took the post... maybe I read more into it). Even if you are moving, it sounds pretty bad, since it happened 2 days ago and you are getting worse?!

I have also been told that a sprain can be more painful than a break. I had broke my arm when I was young and it hurt; but after a day, felt fine in the cast. I sprang my ankle really bad one time and I ended up having to be put in a boot thing and crutches, because it just would not heal and hurt like Hell for a month! (I waited a month to go to the dr, because I knew it wasn't broke and didn't think there was anything they could do for me)

A few months ago, my dog ran so hard into my daughters wrist, that it was still hurting her hours later and very swollen. I took her to the ER, it wasn't broke; but they put her in a sling. I ended up taking her, the next day, to an orthopedic, who put a cast on it (to protect it and allow her to function-as she was seriously protecting it and couldn't do much). She wore the cast for 3 weeks and it made it where she was able to use the arm somewhat and let it heal. Her arm had been swollen so bad, that a couple of days before she was set to get the cast off, it literally slid off of her arm in the bathtub! (They make waterproof one's now, where you can swim, take a bath, whatever in them) The point of the story is, even if it is not broke, it still could need a little protection and help.

Also, do you think you could have hurt your back more? I don't know how bad it was to start; but I know like in Katie's situation, if she fell she could become paralyzed or close to it. This was my fear in saying get to a doctor. Since you have a friend coming, you can give it a little time, if it isn't dire; but don't put it off too long. At least you will have help.

Know that we are thinking about you and praying for you!
