    Default Acupuncture...(muscle spasms)

    Hey!!

Ok, well today I had Acupuncture done on me. They put the needles in my low back, YUCK!!! It wasn't very comfortable at all....

I just have one question, I have been having some pretty WICKED muscle spasms/contractions since the Acupuncture.

Does anyone know if this is normal?? I would think it is somewhat normal, but I am not sure.....

    Thanks!!

Mary, I've had quite a number of acupuncture treatments done and have never had spasms. But I didn't find the needles to be very uncomfortable either.

May I ask who is doing it for you? The fellow I had was extremely well trained and came from China, where he practiced for quite awhile. Sometimes there are practitioners out there that only have a couple of months training, if that.

I found it helped a great deal, but unfortunately it was an hour's drive each way for the treatments and the time spent on the road eventually just wasn't worth it, as it just about erased what good was done. When I first started it, I slept through the night for the first time in a year.

Maybe check around and ask for references from friends, etc. Like everything else, they vary quite a lot in how good they are.

Also, the fellow I went to said to go home and sleep afterwards to make the treatments work better. At least try to take it easy...I know, easier said than done with a little one.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Ditto Katie's experience Mary. Have never experienced muscle spasms after acupuncture. I actually liked the needles going in. Don't ask me why! But I experienced diminishing results with subsequent treatments.
