Here's the line up for Desert Institute for Spine Care.

Dr. Christopher Yeung (son) has been the principal investigator in many FDA studies, including Flexicore lumbar artificial disc replacement, Cervicore cervical artificial disc replacement, and DASCOR total nucleus replacement.

Dr. Anthony Yeung (father) is a board certified Orthopedic Spine Surgeon who specializes in diagnosing and treating the causes of back pain and sciatica from painful degenerative conditions of the lumbar spine, particularly herniated lumbar discs and pain from bulging discs with annular tears. He is an internationally renowned endoscopic spine surgeon, the first to utilize endoscopically guided laser for painful degenerative conditions of the lumbar spine, and the developer of the FDA approved Yeung Endoscopic Spine System (YESSTM).

Dr. Field is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopedic spine surgeon. Dr. Field has specialized training in minimally invasive spine surgery and motion sparing technologies, such as cervical and lumbar Artificial Disc Replacement, as well as non-fusion stabilization. In addition he has extensive training in adult deformity correction and treatment.

Dr. Meredith's interests include minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery, as well as degenerative spine disorders. Dr. Meredith also treats a wide range of neurosurgical disorders, including brain tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, Chiari malformations, Hydrocephalus, as well as peripheral nerve entrapments such as carpal tunnel syndrome.

    I hope this helps,

    Bob

I will paste my message from other forum you posted on:

    Hi Denis,

I have mentioned dr. Yeung several times on this forum.

From what I explored in last 2 years, dr. Yeung is one of few world leaders in minimally-invasive spine surgery. He adopted AMD (arthroscopic micro-discectomy) from dr. Parviz Kambin and evolved it to SED (selective endoscopic discecomy). In my humble opinion, this is most advanced method to treat disc herniations and especially internal disc disruption (if we exclude ADR and fusion for IDD). However, patients with prior surgery at same level can be unhappy with results of minimally-invasive spine surgery, especially patients suffering from IDD.

Keano, this sounds very interesting. I'm curious though about the technique; if they work mainly on the herniated/collapsed discs, how much damage is still there because the vertebrae are still too close together? Will clearing out the discs provide as much relief as opening up the space? I wish I understood all of this better.

Gil, have you had any luck with your other search?
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

    @Katie
But herniated disc is not the same as collapsed disc.

Keano, thanks, I understand that, but the herniated disc is often shrunken to dome degree too isn't it? Even with the herniation, the height is reduced, no? And does that not impinge on the nerves, etc? I'm seriously wanting to learn more, and you are such a wealth of knowledge...I so appreciate everything you are bringing to this forum.

Gil, all I can say is *#@# !! I don't understand what's going on, but will try calling them today for you.

Most of herniations don't include disc space collapse, because there is not much disc that herniated out. Disc collapses after years and years of degeneration and dehydration.

Very often disc collapses because of traditional discectomy like micro-discectomy or normal discectomy. During this surgeries, a lot of nucleus is removed and this can lead to collapsing and further degeneration.

With minimally-invasive discectomy like endoscopic discectomy, surgery includes removal of only herniated part of your disc. In some cases, they go INSIDE the disc and also remove some degenerated parts which are visualized thanks to evocative discography.

    Hope its more clear now...
