Default Good Diet and Vitamins for the Back?

From what I have learned it is good to eat alot of protein and take glucosamine, flax seed oil, and omega 3. Anybody else have any ideas/suggestions? Im just trying to figure out why my back is crumbling when I didnt play pro football or anything lol nor have any real family history of back issues, the chiro I have been going to said my spine was crooked which would make sense since back pain started years ago after colliding with guy in midair playing basketball. But I used to be kind of skeptical of chiros.
Riding 4 wheeler and playing basketball. Collide with guy in mid air and I hit concrete on one leg and then fall down. Wake up in pain cant move for few hours, fine few days later. Back never the same.

Spine problems at a relatively young age can result from traumatic injury. Eating "clean" (watching your fat intake, avoiding fast-fried foods, eating fruits and vegetables, etc.) and exercising are good for general health. The better shape you are in (ie not overweight), the more your back will thank you.

Also, be careful with vitamins. Some patients believe that taking more is a good thing since vitamins are "good for you." This can be dangerous, especially with the fat soluble vitamins. More is not always better.

    Have a great night.

For my stem cell procedure, they told me to take glucosamine, chondroitin, hyaluronic acid, and collagen II. Additionally, i'm taking fish oil for the omega 3's.

It hasn't helped with my herniation and it's been 3 months taking these things. I'm hoping it'll help with the regeneration of the degenerative disc. My next MRI will be the judge.

Can you explain this a lil please?

You can 'overdose' on vitamins. I did this a little bit before. I am borderline anemic and at one point had not eaten for days b/c of sickness. I was feeling the effects of no iron and decided to take some, well I overdid it and it made me feel really weird. Luckily it didn't require hospitalization or anything, but was definitely noticeable. Some vitamins your body will just flush the extras out and it's no big deal, but others can damage you if you have too much. Also, supplements are not FDA controlled, so they may not be what you think the are. For this reason I only buy one brand, it's pretty expensive, but my doctor and pharmacist both recommend it and it's very high quality. It's called Ortho Molecular Products.

I currently take up to 4 glucosamie/chondrotin/msm supplements as says on the bottle which adds up to a total of 1500 mg of glucosamine and 500 of the others or so. I also take up to 2 omega 3's and 2 flax seed. If anybody thinks thats too much feel free to chime in. Usually I end up just taking 2 glucosamines a day and the omega and flax seed. The case study I had posted before the guy took 4 for like first 6 months i think then went to 2 a day. I know its not regulated by the fda, but I dont go over what is recommended on the bottle. And good article on vitamin poisoning. I do know that taking too many is not good, so far just doing what chiro recommended although could be dangerous since he isnt a " nutritionist". I plan on eventually going to talk to a licensed "nutritionist". Just keeping the fight to keep back from crumbling any more till mesoblast gets here and who knows if that will actually work or worse harm me.

Hope you didn't think I was saying you were overdoing, just trying to give an example. What I meant by not FDA regulated is that I read an article about a supplement (can't remember which one, maybe ginko balboa?) Anyway, the article said that with all the different varieties on the market and the amount of it they claimed to contain, was actually more than 4 times the worlds supply (meaning that a lot of them did not contain as much as they said they did, or any at all). That's why I use the one brand that my doctor and pharmacist have recommended and that has been studied and tested by outside sources and really has what it claims in it.

The FDA amount recommended is probably too low but it is safe. On the bottles they put the % of FDA recommended for each vitamin the bottle contains but that doesn't mean much either. The mg or UIs (milligrams and Units) are what is important to know. As Justin said, the fat soluble ones (which don't just pass thru your body) are the ones that can be overdosed. Vitamin A is one. Too much of the minerals such as iron and calcium and various others can also cause problems. You probably need to go to the website that Justin recommended to check it all out. I've heard it said that Americans have the most expensive urine in the world. (Due to overdosing on the water soluble vitamins which pass thru to our urine.)
    Diagnosis:
    Degenerative disc disease throughout spine
Generalized disc bulging with mild narrowing of thecal sac in L2-L3, L3-L4, L4-L5, L5-S1.
    Moderate spinal stenosis L4-L5
    Foraminal narrowing
    Recent compression Fx at T10,T11.
    Treatment:
    Spinal decompression 2007
Cortisone injection in lower back in 2010
    Relieved of pain for now
    Hope for ADR
