Today I went to a chiro for the first time. Read some stuff about him seemd good. I got there though and he didnt do any xrays on my spine but did just read the mri report. I would think a good chiro would do some xrays or look at your mri images on the cd if he was really good. He has donestuff with olympic weightlifters and the track team for the local college here ( LSU ). I have been a little skeptical of chiros originally, but decided to try it out. So what are the member's opinions on the subject matter of how to determine a good Chiro and if Chiros really do help?

My wife has been going now for a month and insists that she feels better. She has two slipped discs in he cervical region as well as a rupture. She was taking 5-6 Vicodin a day and now is down to only 1, so it must be working for her.The first visit consisted of going over her MRI as well as getting current xrays. She is constantly bugging me to go but I have still not bought into the idea yet.

I've had both good and bad ones. Usually word of mouth recommendations are a good way to go. The one I have now is definitely the best I've ever had, and does as little as possible to me, just enough to make things better, without strong manipulations/over-doing things. He is also highly recommended by several friends who are doctors.

And yes, he took my MRIs and spent a lot of time going over them, plus my x-rays.

If you had cervical issues, bad ones like mine, I wouldn't let him touch me there. Some are over confident, and they scare the pants off me. I'd much rather have them be a little tentative about treatment when conditions are serious.
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Mine are just lumbar Katie. But yeah, I am a little skeptical he didnt look at my mri disc and just looked over the report. He didnt do anything too crazy adjustment wise which I liked. He has been the chiro for weight lifting things in the olympics and stuff and the track team here, so i guess he is good idk. I am sure most chiros have some sports team they helped that they post on the wall lol.

Just me... but I wouldn't let one touch me without x-rays being done. That would scare me. I was also very skeptical and have went to several. Some scare me more than others.... I don't like being popped and cracked. I have never been one to have someone crack my back, it weirds me out. I don't even like to pop my knuckles. I do think there are good ones, it's just finding them. I would ask him why he didn't look at your images and/or do x-rays? Maybe he has a good explanation. Mainly, I wouldn't let them do anything that I didn't feel comfortable with.

I had an excellent chiropractor when I lived in Texas. He definitely took x-rays and looked at my MRI and report. Since my lumbar adr's I don't go anymore. I don't think it is a smart idea after you have artificial discs. And I have too severe stenosis and DDD in my neck to even let them touch it. I do believe in them tho. No x-rays taken before treatment should make you highly suspicious. If you decide to give it another shot, I would seek out a new doc.
