    Default Lumbar question

    Hi All

This is for lumbar patients, I have a very sore lumbar spine, most days i manage very well.Stiff in the A.M. as the day moves on so do I. Most task are o.k. walking, some woodworking, some easy skiing, P.T. three times a week with streatching and exercises etc.

Here is the question I get crooked, out of sorts, when I look into a mirror it looks like a leaning tree? It is very painful. It gets better with in a few days, but recently it has become more severe and takes longer to get back to my old self. Has anyone ever had these symptoms and what is the cause?

I thing this is major spinal instability and surgery is kicking me in the **s to get it now

This is a workers comp case and will only cover some, other insurance will not cover anything because of W.C.

I have been searching for a surgeon here in the states from coast to coast and being a possible four level spinie no one has a procedure for lasting sucess, I can go out of country, but no money due to real estate, recession, cannot work etc,

I think it would be nice if we had a foundation to help finance, work with spine patients is seeking the correct procedure and surgeon.Like cancer foundations etc

    All For Now

    Thanks for listening

    Hey Gil,

I'm sorry to read that you are still suffering and that you are still searching for a surgeon.

In regard to your "crooked" posture, it could be a number things. The first thing this makes me think of is muscular decompensation--your psoas muscles can altered your posture, especially with long-term dysfunction. If you search the SPS site, you should find a picture of the psoas muscle that I posted a while back.

Also, your morning stiffness that gets better as the day goes on, screams osteoarthritis (which is the "wear and tear" of joints that many people experience as a result of long-standing issues).

In terms of helping Spine Patients with financing surgeries, this is a project that the Spine Patient Foundation (officially a part of the Spine Patient Society) is currently working on. Stay tuned, as there will be many updates in the next few months.

    Hang in there, my friend!

I would start with going to a doctor and have him send you to get an MRI, hopefully that will be a good start to show what's wrong with your back.
Have people on here had these symptoms before? YESSSSSSSS

I haven't. I am currently looking at pursuing the Spinal Cord Stimulator, which requires prior authorization. Have you ever considered that Gil? But first, per the request of my pain doctor, I am returning to my surgeon that performed my right SI Joint Fusion surgery, this Friday morning in fact, to describe my pain symptoms....which my physical therapist is convinced is my right SI Joint area that is screaming with pain. If he won't order another Cat Scan or MRI to see what is going on, then my pain clinic said they would. Anyway, I know it can be so difficult to find someone to treat you when you have so many levels that are dysfunctional and painful. I think that it is good that you are continuing your stretching exercises and pt exercises. I'm just sorry that you are finding yourself in so much pain still. Are you collecting any type of disability payment Gil? I would think you would qualify. Have you ever had a discogram Gil? So many questions. Sorry. I hope you can find the answers you need and get the treatment you deserve as well, to get back in the saddle. Good luck. Cindylou

    HI CL

Thanks Yes I am on temp disability with W.C and that is almost over, now trying to get full disability and still being on W.C.
I have never had a discogram that is next with new MRIs
I was suggested to try a SCS and insurance would not cover " not proven to have any effect" and I think this would be a last effort for me.

Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what your going to get.

I think the thing here, Gil, is that, like your statement above, that I bolded from the movie, you have such an upbeat, upful and bright attitude, that is serving you so well during this difficult, interim period of time. Life throws all kinds of punches to everyone at one time or another, some get more, some less, and it's really more about how we respond to these trials that is the ticket to survival, you know? Attitude is everything. And you have it bro, in spades. Hang tight, Cindylou

    Hi Gil,
I know what has hleped me is doing active release technique (ART) Active Release Techniques: A.R.T. Usually done by a chiropractor.. along with doing adjustments it helped release my muscles on my right lower back. I do have a curvature of my spine where the muscles have been so tight over time and slowly made me crooked
May 2008 Dropped a patient at work- thought it was muscle~ out of work for 2 weeks then recovered with PT.
May of 2010 Constant pain after setting up a charity event... No relief with rest, massage, PT
Aug of 2010 Dropped $4500 at chiropractor for decompression therapy (spine Med), adjustment and rehab
Jan of 2011 MRI done and showed L3-4 herniation
April 19th Pro Disc L implanted enrolled in Freedom Disc study with Dr Pettine in Loveland, CO
