Yes, it helps. Not exactly to me, as my disk is real disaster, but this info may help to others who have annular tears prior to any other surgery type.

We diagnose annular tears both via 3.0T MRI and disscography. We use discography and selective nerve root blocks to confirm. Yes, we have had success, too early to quote a generalizable success rate for this small n category. Perhaps by next year. Hope this helps.

How do I sign up as a particpant? I have three level fusion in the neck. Other levels are showing signs. I have one or two levels in my thorasic as well from slight scoliosis. I have the other half on my life to live. I can't imagine living it in such pain and disability.

Three neck surgeries:
7/2007 PEEK implant w/titanium plate and screws at the C4-C5 & C5-C6
4 EMGS/NCS showing radiculopathy at all levels mentioned
7/2008 nerve root injections 2 times
9/2008 revision C4/5 & C5/6 due to failure of fusion replace PEEK implant w/donor bone graft new titanium plate and screws
10/2009 stand alone Peek cage C3/4
Arthritis of c-spine c6/7/t1
loss of muscle tone in forearms and hands
Cheryl,
We have yet to apply this procedure to the thoracic or cervical spine at this point. For now we are strictly lumbar.
Chris Centeno, M.D.
Thank you for your information. I appologize for taking so long to respond. I haven't felt well this past 2 weeks. I am having so much trouble with my c6/7 c7/t1....and the level above the peek cage at 3/4. I wish I knew of a surgoen who was willing to test me out on some micro laser proceedures I've been reading about. I went to Tulsa from Oklahoma City and still all doctors want to do is major surgery.
I know that I have bone spurs at that level, but the last CT showed it was moving off the back of the vetabrea away from the never. Oh really! Then why I am having pain in my hands, intermittant weakness, and loss of muscle tissue? My EMG showed issues with those levels. I do not have clinical signs of any Neuro Muscular Disease.
And the doctor had the never to say that we lose some muscle with age. Well not in 6 months we don't! It doesn't happen that fast. This is clearly physical damage.
I really hate it when doctors talk down to me.

I listened to one of Regenexx's webinars the other night. They had lots of technical problems and the doctor looked very, very tired. However, I did learn a little that I had not read on their website. It it works, it has to be one of the best treatments for permanent improvement of back problems (and knee, shoulder, etc). They are supposed to have a large amount of outcome data analyzed very soon. It looks very promising to me. Although my back has many problems, I just had my first epidural steroid injection in the lower back. They certainly hit the right spot and I am completely pain free right now. I realize this is a temporary fix but it was very helpful for the short term.
(I still don't know how to get ther permanent info on my back in these e-mails- that everyone else has.)
C4-5: Mild disc height loss with central annular fissure. Small broad-based left paracentral disc protrusion. Moderate central canal stenosis-the disc protrusion abuts and mildly flattens the left ventral surface of the spinal canal.
C5-6: Disc desiccation with mild height loss.Diffuse discosteophyte bulge anduncovertebral joint hypertrophy, moderate central canal stenosis- Severe neuroforaminal stenosis bilaterally, right greater than left
I have a tear in my l4-l5 and would be happy to try Regenexx stem cells if the price was right. Will it help disc with DDD or will it only help hurt disc that are from a "fresh tear" due to injury. I assume once a disc "dessicates" its done for good.

If it is a complete tear then regenex wont help. If its a contained herniation then regenexx can help. It does rehydrate the disc some they say, but idk how long that lasts. For a full tear only treatment is really conservative care, fusion,or adr. Stupid insurance companies wont cover the adr's yet mostly grrrr and and stupid fda only says one level, grrr. Stupid fda needs to let mesoblast get here asap lol, that will fix us all, although who knows how long the new disc will last lol.
Riding 4 wheeler and playing basketball. Collide with guy in mid air and I hit concrete on one leg and then fall down. Wake up in pain cant move for few hours, fine few days later. Back never the same.
dec 2007 horseplaying with father, contained l5-s1 disc herniation with sciata on right leg, traction helps and time, pain free, diagnosed ddd l4/l5 and l5/s1
Damn i wish it was as easy as this...
