I emailed Mesoblast asking about their stem cell products and they said that allogenic treatment is only available through clinical trials. However, autologous products have been approved by the Austrailian TGA meaning you can have your stem cells drawn and cultured. Unfortunately, they said they were not aware of any facilities that were using the cells for treatment yet. They did say in September that they will be working with pro football teams there in negotiating details to bank player's stem cells so they could be used for treatment of injuries - specifically broken bones to start with as I guess this is a common injury for players. This is encouraging. If football players can do it, then anyone with money should be able to do the same - I hope.

Also, Parkway Health clinics in Asia are using allogenic Mesoblast products to conduct a knee osteoarthritis trial even though Mesoblast hasn't received approval for an FDA trial. I believe this is becasue of excellent preclinical results with Replicart. I expect as Mesoblast gets positive results with their disc repair product, Parkway will host clinical trials if people with money want it. They are a private hospital. Money talks. They are also not under the stricter regulation that other countries face as they are Asia based. They have indicated an interest to participate in future clinical investigations. This is very positive.

    Dear Daniel,

The TGA approval does give the green light (license) for being able to manufacture/ market the product (i.e the process) for a specific application- in this case long-bone repair. Perhaps I should not have used the phrase 'not yet registered' which technically applies to our "on-the-shelf" products (allogeneic) that are tested in clinical trial phases. That perhaps was misleading, so for that I apologize.

Certainly dialogue is occurring with potential & interested treatment facilities (as the article states) who would obviously have the need, and though technically "available", as yet there has been no actual treatments. This in itself has its own process to ensure treatment falls within the guidelines as per the license. I could not say with certainty when the product would first receive its first treatment case- the article did mention capturing the players in the football off-season, which here in Australia is post September.

As for the question about Parkway Hospitals, I am not certain as to whether they use allogeneic or autologous products- Mesoblast is not conducting clinical trials or product trialing with this hospital group at present.

    Hope this information helps!

So this clinic in Barcelona is one of the very rare places where you can get stem cells therapy for DDD? Isn't it?

    Best regards.

    Hi Luis,

I too live in Spain and looking for stem cell therapy. U say that u have pain in your leg after afew months. My question is , is it worth it?

I am asking because u don`t seem to be satisfied with the result.

Have had DDD for the past 10 years. & of those 10 have been hell on earth. If hell exists, I think this is damn near it !!

I have all my lumbar discs very degenerated. Scoliosis and hyperlordosis of the lumbar spine. Bone spurs are also growing.

I have d8 to d10 with DDD aswell.

Muscular contractions none stop 24/7 for 6 years. Nobody seems to be able to relax these muscules which are adding to the wasting away of the discs.

    Affects my left leg particularly.
