Default 6 months post op and the pain is back......

    Hi all,

It's been awhile. It's 6 months since my 4 level laminectomy and things were pretty good until about 3 weeks ago. One minute I was walking around work thinking about how great is was to be pain free and then a wrong move of some kind - nothing out of the ordinary- and boom, I have been in almost constant pain ever since. I saw the surgeon last Friday (an already scheduled follow up appt.) and he thinks it's muscular. After all, I spent the better part of a year hunched over and then recovering from surgery so my muscles are weak. I was slowly improving but the past few days have been pretty bad.

Has anyone experienced this? I am beside myself because I had just gotten into a good exercise routine and now I've had to stop. Have been doing some core strengthening when I can but I'm unsure what else to do. I called the surgeon's office today looking for a recommendation for an orthopedist thinking it may not be the same issue and I may not need a surgeon. This isn't the first incident I've had since surgery, but it doesn't seem to be improving. Has anyone else experienced this? How do I know if it's a temporary glitch or another problem?

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks for listening.

I can't believe it's been 6 months already! It sounds muscular to me. During my recovery from all 3 of my spine surgeries, I had "phases" of tight muscles / doing too little = get sore / do a little to much = set back a couple of days, etc. With muscular issues, things can take a while to calm down (your body is probably compensating for irritation with adjusted gait, posture, etc.). Definitely give yourself a few days to "lay low" and see if things start to normalize.

I'm sorry you've hit this bump in the road -- hang in there...we are here for you.

Thanks Justin; by the way, site update looks great.

My left butt cheek has a constant (and I mean constant) burn. Standing, sitting, lying, with pain killers - have you ever experienced that? The other pain is very central at the moment - right in the middle of my lower back. Almost feels like something is poking me in there.

In any case, I have to go to work today but will likely take tomorrow off and see if lying low will help beat this. And then I'll have to come up with a plan b....

Muscles are tight and twisting my spine, Justin is correct it takes time for all to heal and adjust.
