Honestly, my neck feels like it did years ago, before any spine problems. I am still being careful about turning it too far or too suddenly because I am still in the early stages of healing, but when I am moving it, I feel little restriction.

My neurological problems all seem to be gone...I can now walk with one foot in front of the other, on my heels and toes, all those good things. Plus my balance is much better, as are my bladder issues ( a lot of hesitancy). Thankfully all those problems which several surgeons thought would be permanent have been resolved. I had been told that they could stop more deterioration but probably could not reverse the damage already done.

The areas of my lumbar fusions feel pretty tight at times, but the whole area may be needing more physiotherapy. Again, it is early in the healing game. If there is anything else I can help with, please ask
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Katie I take it you like how the NuVasive disc feels in your neck? Is it lke a Fusion or ADR?
JK, I'm glad you are feeling better. The current generation of artificial disc replacement devices don't have any significant compression qualities (in other words, they don't "absorb" shock or compressive forces).

Is 8 weeks what it usualy takes to recover?
C4-5: Mild disc height loss with central annular fissure. Small broad-based left paracentral disc protrusion. Moderate central canal stenosis-the disc protrusion abuts and mildly flattens the left ventral surface of the spinal canal.

C5-6: Disc desiccation with mild height loss.Diffuse discosteophyte bulge and uncovertebral joint hypertrophy, moderate central canal stenosis- Severe neuroforaminal stenosis bilaterally, right greater than left

    Jk,

Whew! I was concerned that there was some other real problem. But as you're feeling noticeably better, perhaps you're finally starting to emerge from the surgery and heal? I hate that it's taken so long. When I was eight weeks post my double cervical ADR, I had already resumed running and was back up to 30 miles per week. Well, we are all constructed differently and all heal differently. I'm glad that you're finally beginning to see some real progress!

Keep hanging in there and the day will come (hopefully soon) that you'll feel better than you did pre-surgery; and even forget that you even had surgery!

    Please keep us posted!

My disc is completely made of silicone, no metal or ceramic at all. If there is any way to absorb any shock, I guess it would be this design, or maybe the M6. Unfortunately it isn't available in North America yet, but was there a thread about there being a trial for it (NeoDisc)?

I am so glad that your pain is now coming under control. I was quite worried too. It's sometimes hard to give information to help when everyone is so different.

8 weeks post op...worst 8 weeks of my life.

why did I not let my mom take me to germany for the M6? smh..my neck is "ok" but I dont think the pro disc is a good move. I have a tear in my L4-5 and next time around I will have it done with the M6 I hope.

Disc are not made to be "hard" and without compression. at least in my mind.

    JK,

I dont know how I missed you in the beginning but I just got through reading this entire thread and holy cow.....it felt like I was reading the climax of a horror/suspense movie. I was getting worried as to all the pain you were talking about. I'm so glad you are past the hellish 8 weeks. What is your pain like now (1-10)? Is it better or worse than pre-surgery? Is it the same pain or different? Just wondering how your doing now as I was really worried while reading through your thread.

I dont mean to scare you in any way because I dont know everything and thats why I ask questions but it seemed like in the xrays you posted that the disc is positioned a little far forward. In all the films....nuetral/flexion/extension the disc looked like you were leaning back. But who knows, maybe it is positioned that way given the spot in your neck its at to keep the natural curve of you spine bending backwards at that spot.....HAH, thats probably exactly what it is. OK, nevermind, it doesnt concern me anymore. But your well being does and I hope your getting better.

Please let me know how your feeling and how it compares to pre-surgery. I'm not kidding when I say your thread had me scared and I cant rest easy until I know that you're doing better. Hang in there and take it easy....were here for you!
