They took me of the drip (b/c I threw up everything in me) and gave me pills which make me itch....smh

This is my first major surgery...I was not ready for this...I thought I would wake up feeling a lil better b/c they took the c5-6 disc out ( off the spinal cord)...Im so uncomfortable in my neck and in so much pain just in my neck...its unreal...I know its only the first day post up but to take this much drugs and still be in this much pain is so scary....

    Hey JK

You may have an allergic reaction to morphine it makes me puke every time there are better drugs to reduce your pain levels.

Hang in there talk to your pain management team, get relief.

Surgery is no fun but it does get better

    Get some sleep

    Hi JK,

I'm glad that you are on the other side of surgery. I'm sorry you are having a rough time. Keep us posted on your progress. As Gil said, things do get better. The first couple of days can be rough.

Things should not be that rough. You might ask for IV gravol...something to prevent the nausea. As Gil said, you may be reacting to the morphine, but it was my friend. They should be able to get your pain under control much better than that.

Did you have the IV in your wrist? Stay positive...it will make your healing easier. I know, easier said than done.

I assume your throat is sore more because of the tube they put in during surgery, plus the surgery itself. I found that the first tube caused the most discomfort though. It was very difficult to eat and swallow for about a week.

I am coming up to just over four weeks of both C5/6Nuvasive disc and L4/5 and L5/S1 fusion surgery, and my throat and sore shoulder on the left side were giving me some of the worst discomfort at the beginning.

I'm old enough to be your mom, so hang in there
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

    JK,

I was wondering about you the other day; what you'd ever decided to do and which device you landed on; M6 or ProDisc.

Well, I'm glad that it's finally done. I hate that you're feeling so bad, but try not to worry about that right now. I've had three cervical surgeries, and expect to have one more; so I really do feel your pain. The worst reaction I had to drugs was limited to barfing just once within a couple of hours after surgery; which was WAY less that what you're experiencing. I hope you're feeling 100% better by the time your read this. I was always 85% by three days post-surgery. Hopefully the same will be true for you.

Just keep hanging in there; things are probably going to get a whole lot better very quickly.

    Good luck, Jeff

    JK,

Just wondering how you are feeling these last few days. I hope the pain levels have started to settle down and you are getting around OK. Q? Did they have you use a cervical collar and if they did, what type?

    Heal well buddy.
