Blush Cervical Fusion and Artificial Disc Replacement

I am a new member back at work since 4/6 after a two-level ACDF+P with artificial disc placement. I'm glad I found this forum and hoping I can learn from all you guys! I'm still experiencing intermittent swallowing problems and, at times, my voice sounds like a boy going thru puberty. Overall, my pain is decreased and the awful headaches I had before the surgery are gone!

Let me be the first to welcome you aboard.

I hope you are doing well today!

If you don't mind sharing, where and did you have your procedure done (i.e., country, hospital, surgeon)?

    What artificial disc was used?

    Hi Kathleen,
Thanks for the kind welcome. My surgery was done by Jonathan Friedman, MD, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan, TX. I'm not sure which artificial discs I received (I'm checking on it!).
    Thanks!

Welcome to SPS. Cervical surguries seem to be a little more rare around here.

I had a two level ADR in June , 2008. C5-6 and C6-7, utilizing the Prodisc. I'm Feeling great!! The throat issues can last for a few weeks or more, depending how far they streached your neck to get the hardware installed. It will get better day by day.

Glad you found us and again, welcome.

Welcome to the site Maddiecakes! It sounds like your surgery was a success and that the swallowing issues you are having will get better everyday. It must be a great relief to be rid of the headaches. I'm also a lumby but have not had any surgery yet. I'm glad you found the site. It is a great place and everybody is so helpful.

A big welcome from another cervie I'm just over four weeks out from a Nuvasive disc at C 5/6, plus two level fusion in the lower lumbar levels.

My neck was one of the sorest spots initially, and I had lots of trouble swallowing, etc. However that disappeared quite quickly and now there is just a little tenderness and numbness on the skin only at that level. It went away so gradually as to almost not being noticeable. While I didn't have much neck pain, the surgery certainly did solve all the mobility problems I had, as well as a number of other issues.

    Welcome to the other side!
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!
