Moving clothes from washer to dryer is definitely hard on the back because you are bending and lifting right where your Fusion was. Find a recliner that fits, lean back and take it easy every hour or so.

Morning. My concerns have been am I getting enough walking/movement or am I doing too much too soon.Had not taken pain meds in 2 days. So at 2 1/2 week mark, I put pot roast in cooker Mon. I tried to get clothes out of washer and in dryer Wed and sit up/propped up more but was in serious pain by Thursday. Friday had to get Doc to change muscle relaxer because entire left side muscles felt like they were going to snap! Doing too much or just the wrong things?
Original O/J injury 1996 herniated L34 L45. severe Facet joint inflammation. Dealing with his weight for months set in motion pain that would not go away. I spent more days on my back than up.Doc said live with it or surgery. So I sucked up and had surgery on Nov. 18 2010 ALIF L4-5 S1 procedure.

Glenda,
It sounds like you might be doing too much. Take your time in healing, you only get one chance to do this correctly. If possible, have friends or family members lend a hand. Be good to yourself. Be easy on yourself.
What instructions did your surgeon give you? I seem to remember a time restriction on bending at the waist among other things.
I waited 7 weeks before starting PT and it was a light regimen for a few weeks at that.
Heal well,
Bob

Glenda, I do agree 100% too with all the above advice. You think it doesn't sound like much, but, the truth is, it is too much. Especially stopping your pain medication so soon too, on top of the other things. Definitely, no washing/drying clothes. Precisely where you don't want to bend. Recheck with your surgeon, for any further restrictions as well. It's a slow process, this healing thing, but it will be so worth it, if you can get it right this first and only time. Any older kids at home to help? Grandkids too help? Any church/synagogue membership? Relatives, spouse, or best friend to lend a helping hand? If not, let it go anyway. lol Good luck! Cindylou

I would definitely say too much too soon. I took a good 6 weeks of doing nothing but focusing on me. No bending, twisting, lifting. I even made my husband run baths for me, so I wouldn't bend. I didn't want all that pain of surgery to be for nothing and to ruin it. Take it easy and remember your body just went through MAJOR surgery.

It is a slow process, especially for someone with NO patience. Unfortunately Kids live out of town as well as family. All closest friends live 20+ miles away, so just my husband. Needs a few nurse lesson's, but he's getting there. Thanks for the response. Good luck to you.
