    Hi Alison,

I had a fusion of L5-S1 back in November of 08. I felt ok after considering I was fused.Around 8 months post-op I was helping my wife in the yard and went to give her a bag in a twisting motion.Well I suddenly was put to the ground with a sharp stabbing pain in the low back , more like Sacral area.

The next morning woke up and I had extreme bilateral but pain.Going on 18 months now same thing , I wake up no pain , then 15 minutes later pain comes on and does not go away.

I have had multiple PT sessions , meds do not seem to work. I had a exploration of the fused disc and was told all is well. I don't know where to go from here.I mentioned Piriformis syndrome and Sacral cysts to my Rehab / Pain doc and they look at me like I am crazy.

Everyone just seems to look at my chart see I have had 3 back surgeries in 6 years and not look for other answers.

Well you are not, just keep going until you feel you have been properly investigated and listened to. Keeping a diary of day to day pain can be good ie activities that make it worse, meds taken. Also a clear account of the incident to that set off this fresh set of symptoms maybe in writing to give to investigating physician. I have also seen the look in the eyes of Drs who just mark you down as a failed back surgery patient, not good

Hi Mike and welcome. Sorry to hear about your situation. Have you seen multiple doctors? I know I had to see a few before I was taken seriously since I'm younger even though I have a long history of back problems.
    - Microdiscectomy at 16 (10/1998)
    - L4, L5, S1 fused at 28 (1/2011)
    - No longer superman, but I plan to find a way to come as close as I can

I have seen 3 surgeons so far and 1 Pain / rehab dr , I know the feeling I was 28 when my problems began , and wish I would of taken the first dr I saw advice.

He told me he could help me , but could not guarantee it would last , and I could possible get worse with time.

Being young I thougt I could get through anything , now it is a different story , at 34 I feel 64 , and cant imagine living the rest of my life like this.

Every day is a struggle , I keep hope for that pain free day .
