Default Fuzzy: C/4/5/6 Prodisc Nova ADR (Cervical Artificial Disc Replacement)

I made it through the surgery 2 cervical prodisk Nova by Dr. Bertagnoli on the 27th of November european time and am now on my second day post op. I had them get rid of the strong meds when I made the move from the "ICU" closely monitored station to the regular ward. My neck is sore and I am on ibuprofen 400 3 times a day and muscle relaxers. (not sure what they are) The ibu's are not quite enough as they wear of quick and then I have to wait for next dose. lying in bed hurts more then sitting or standing up. ...................

Just went to xray and it shows some nice pretty prodisks that look perfectly placed.

Together with me is another american and she received 3 prodiscs (wow). her husband is with her every step. Earlier they took her of the strong meds and we walked to xray together.

i have some funny pictures soon

Fuzzy, it sounds like you are doing very well! It's amazing that you have already stepped off of your narcotics--that's definitely the way to go, as narcotics keep many of us in a nasty cycle of pain. It was a great visual walking the three-level patient down to xray with you.

I'm excited to read about your complete recovery! I wish you the very best.

Fuzzy, it all sounds great. Can't wait to see your funny pictures. Don't go too fast........but, I am impressed you are off the narcotics already. If your pain does get unmanageable tho, don't let it get ahead of you, because it will slow down your healing process. You know all that tho. My very best to you!

I will try not to go too fast and listen to my bodies pain signals. My wife and i went for a walk outside today and I could feel my upper spine tensioning up. time to end walk.

Big discovery today. I could stand on ONE LeG without tipping over to put sock on. Both sides. 2 days after surgery!!! Mind you I am still a little dizzy and already I am more steady then before. Have not been able to do that confidently for years. Always needed to sit or something to hold on to. I am sure there will be more good news as time goes.

(this post is the same as todays post on another site)

Boy time flies. I am cleared to leave the hospital. We will leave tomorrow to stay in Straubing for a few more days. Busy day today including more checks ups, PT, the friendly staff at the Bogen hospital and a walk the long way to downtown for coffee and cake.
My pain is low if I don't try anything I shouldn't be doing and my symptoms of myleopathy have improved. Still there but no more aggrevating symptoms just more of a back ground. I made it through the walk with warm hands and no numbness and tingles. I think Dr. bertagnoli worked on the right discs and I have much hope there will be more improvment as time goes. Now its time to take a shower and wash the remaining beard!

Fuzzy, I'm so pleased at the progress you've made already. You've got the constitution of an ox, as my grandma would say

When I've spoken to different surgeons, they've all said that they could not reverse the symptoms or damage done to the nerves already, just hope to stop further problems, so I'm impressed that you've already seen a change in your pre-op problems like the numbness.

Thanks so much for posting the images and I'm looking forward to more progress reports
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

    Fuzzy,

Congrats on the new neck. Placement of the disc's looks really well. Got a question for you. Are you having pain in your shoulders and does your throat hurt from being inhtubinated? Just wondering since I had that surgery 18 months ago and had those after effects.

    Good Luck Sir.
