    Default Gunk in Throat

    Hello All!

I am finally on the other side!!!! I had my ACDF with the zero profile implant on April 25th and have been doing great! No more arm pain at all!

However, for about 2 weeks I have had this huge lump of mucus int throat and I cannot get rid of it. I have been using Musinex and 'sudefed' with no results. My nuero has told me it is not due to the implant, all of the follow up xrays shoe everything is perfect.

I went to the clinic and th doc told me I had bronchitis and put me on a z pak. After the 2nd day it started clearing up then the next day it was back, just as bad.

It is really annoying and my voice is still very hoarse. I'm starting to get a little panicked here.

I am going to call tomorrow to get an appointment with an ENT.

First of all Happy Memorial Day and to all Veterans and current military, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!

Have any of you ever had this problem? Any suggestions? I have also tried gargling with warm salt water, and also hot tea. I

I am really getting desperate here, it is kind of scary!

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm no help on the lump, haven't a clue, but wanted to say how happy I am that you are on the other side. That's great that your arm pain is gone. I wouldn't be surprised if the throat is related to the surgery and it's just something that takes a little time to go away. Hopefully the ENT will know more.

I do agree with Kathy, Alynn. But since it hasn't cleared up on it's own, and to calm your fears, best to hear what the ENT has to say. Good luck with that appointment and welcome to the other side of surgery. Cindylou

Well... I just got home from the ENT and the news is not so great...
My right vocal cord is paralysed as a result of my surgery.

Guess I need to learn to live with it for now and be very careful eating and drink so as not to aspirate.

    Thoughts???

    Thanks, Alynn

Hi Alynn, so sorry for the news concerning your vocal cord. I would follow the advice of your ENT. Did they recommend speech therapy? Many techniques are taught that can greatly help with phonation and they can also teach you techniques to help minimize aspiration. I wish you the very best.

Not sure how things are going with your vocal cord. I had surgery Feb and I was still hoarse until Mid April. The ER doc who saw me in mid-March (whiplash...don't ask) asked if my cords were paralyzed but they did finally bounce back. I had asymmetrical swallowing issues for months also. I do hope things straighten out for you.

Hope you're still pain free and happy
