Default Having XL TDR done on June 16th

Hi, my name is Tyson, I am 27 years old and am having the XL TDR put in between my L-4 and L-5 by Dr. William Blake Rodgers in Jefferson City Missouri. My occupation is in Law enforcment as a SWAT Officer. I have been in law enforcment for approximately six years. Does anyone have any pre operation thoughts or suggestions? And has any one had this procedure done by Dr. Rodgers?

    Thanks Tyson

    Look everyone, another "Junie!"

    WELCOME TO THE BEST SITE.
You will have a lot of company. Check it out for suggestions on what to bring to the hospital, what things you should have at home and many other good things to make your surgery the best you can make it. As long as you are there
you should make it the best you can. You will need to see pre-op and post-op. I could go on but since I ran out of pain pills, I will need to put it on hold. Ouch. Carmen

    Hi Tyson,

I had the procedure done end of January this year...so I'm going on almost 5 months.
My surgeon is Dr. Wupperman out of Austin,TX and he is wonderful!
My back got wrecked from lots of hard work and 2 really bad accidents on horseback...yikes!
I'm doing good and can pretty much anything (except heavy lifting). The first month was a blur....had a setback stepping in a pothole, and tried to do too much too soon. Pre-op was easy post-op is great as long as you get plenty of pain meds and rest. My xrays and mri's are good, but I still am sore and stiff. Maybe need some more excersize??? I don't know.
At least the sciatic nerve wierdness has gone away! I've never had a surgery done on me before and my experience was great! Just make sure you rest after even if you feel good and want to go buy a new Camaro (like I tried to do)

    Take care,

    Jennifer

    Dear Tyson,
Welcome to the website and GOOD LUCK on your surgery. You are almost there. One thing I did that turned out to be great was have a recliner put in my bedroom. It is not like the recliner is that comfortable, but you will find too much of any one thing is bad during those first few weeks.....changing positions is key! Can't wait to hear how it goes. You are young and will do really well.

    Hi,

How are you doing this far out? My one year anniversary is coming up. I still have pain. Not as bad, but.....
Trying to figure out if I may be in the small percentile that it didn't help or do I give it more time? Thanks.

    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,
I am past my 6 months and my anniversary is coming up at the end of June. I feel that I will be saying the same thing that you are saying now. I am still not walking straight. I am in my last phase of PT. I had another MRI and it did not look any better than the one I had before my surgeries. The surgeon was looking for something and he said that although it did not look very good to me, he was looking for the nerve endings and if they had invaded any of my organs. He said that he is certainly going to keep an eye out for a few things that he is still concerned about I am back on pain pills but just 10 mg.
I have another appointment in Feb. I wish I had a magic formula for you but just keep up with the PT. Good luck to you. Carmen

Sorry Carmen that improvement isn't coming for you. Did your surgeon say why he thinks nothing looks different? I'm not sure I understand how it could not be different when there is hardware and such, as well as the discs removed. Hope you improve more.
