    Hi Keane,
Yes, my doctor who have put in the ADR at L4L5 was dr. Zeegers. He did also the fusion with a Stalif Cage L5S1. The ADR failed, I suppose I had not the right figuration for a ADR: bad luck! The fusion went out very well, I was direcly free of my original pain.

    Hi Justin,
Thanks for welcome. Your story is also very extensive. I hope you are improving after your last surgery.
I was wandering about your dynamic stabilisation over the level ADR. How is it now? It was proposed to me also when I had problems with my ADR at L4L5. But I have let it removed and fused. I was afraid of any extra dynamic devices in my body.

    Hi Renos,

I have made great improvements over the last couple of months. I stopped by last narcotic medication on 12/5/09, as I was slowly tapering off of it to avoid withdrawals. I thought I might still have some underlying leg pain after getting off of my last med, but I don't have any pain in my legs. There is a thread about my Dynamic Stabilization System journey that explains a lot more: Dynamic Stabilization System: DSS™--motion (non-fusion, 5/14/09, Dr. Bertagnoli)

I was concerned about "more devices in my body" too, but I had to make a decision as I needed something to help stabilize the forward movement of my L4 vertebral body over L5 (called anterolisthesis). The DSS fit that criteria and allows more motion compared to a "traditional" fusion.

I wish you the very best.

Default re: Hello, I am yust new here. (Artificial Disc Replacement Revision)

Monday, I had my appointment with the Neurosurgeon. It was pretty exciting and I was very nervous about the question: Can and is he willing to help me?

Diagnosis: Pseudo-Arthrosis due to the not grown fix cage/block to the vertebra's L4L5

Normal Threatment in such a case:
Anterior approach to replace cage or revise it, but the anterior approach is to dangerous for me due to the fact that this is already done twice and one vena is clamped between the block and the vertebra. This has been a mistake of the surgeon whi did the ADR removal. Due to the increased chance of damaging this vena in my case, he will not even try it since it could be fatal.

    Alternative surgery:
Posterior approach, where he wants to check if the nerves are free between the spinal-cord and the block and if necessary free them. Possible is this nerves been irritated since I have ADR there. Further he wants to strut between the vertebra's again the backside and two sides of the cage/block in an U-shape around the block with autograft bone strips which will be harvested from the iliac. He hope by doing this, he solves the pseudo-arthrosis and create a solid fusion. It sounds for my case a practical reasonable treatment with potention without to much risks.

January 8, I have to go back to arrange final details and schedule the surgery. Hopefully somewhere in January.

    Take care

    Hi Renos,

The posterior approach and "game plan" laid out by your surgeon sounds like the best way forward. I do hope you get your surgery scheduled in January so that you can get this behind you.

Keep us posted after your next appointment on January 8th.
