Ken, welcome home! There's no place like it, especially for recovery, imho. Yes, you will have ups and downs in your recovery, like the buttocks pain now, just remember to give your body the time to heal. Slow and steady wins the race. I too am so proud of you for going over there all by yourself. I KNOW I could not have done it. Here's to you and a successful recovery!(boy, I didn't look close enough at that pic of Iceman.....I have a golden retriever, so shame on me for not recognizing another one! Yours looks to be more buff colored, yes?)

Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things. Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!
I spoke with Ken the other night on Skype and it sounds as if his surgery has been a big success, it's sometimes difficult to catch him in with the time difference between Japan and the UK but we keep the conversation going.
Best,
Alastair![]()
Alastair, thanks so much for keeping us informed. We really appreciate hearing about 'our guy' in Japan ;-)

Alastair,
I'm glad you have taken Ken under your wing so to say. He couldn't ask for a better mentor.

thanks for the advise. I decided to go slow already.
going really easy. It has snowed a few times this month in Tokyo, a bit weird but warmer than Germany.
I realized the chairs I used to use well don't fit me any more, since the structure of my spine now is completely different.
I should find chairs fit me well again.
Runagain, please take your time for making decision, I learn a lot from other members experiences, not just before surgery but from now on too. beginning of 90s was a really great time in my country.
Cindylou, yes Iceman is light colored or whiter in a way, I was taught he's creme something,, I didn't know there is sub-category in goldens. His dad is a great dog who won some contests. His mom is very gentle and quiet. I think he looks after her well.
Katie, He was excited to see me just that day, already went back to normal state !
Alastair, hi it was a great journey to germany and I could manage myself somehow. thanks !
Hi Dave, In this field, Justin and Alastair are my mentor and I'm apprentice in a way. It's like they are obi-one kenobi of ADR and I'm luke in Japan, not darth vader:thumpup:
