You can't beat the hospital rates. The rates include food, which is actually very good. I know the Chinese restaurant you are talking about. We never got a chance to try it, but I heard it is good. Have you stopped by some of the bakeries? There's a great Italian place that serves pizza at the window and ice cream up front, but if you go inside and ask for a seat they have a full menu. The food was really good, reasonably priced and good portion sizes. Oh, before I forget. Make sure to stop by the gelato place next to the bakery right before you are headed up the road to go to Klinik Bogen.

I think I know this person. Her name didn't happen to be Laura? Anyway, it was great that you were able to connect with other Spine Patients when you were there (and even spread the word about the Spine Patient Society ).

I hope you are having a good day Ken.

    Hi, thanks everyone ありがとう。arigatou,

I am discharged today. it's day 5 after surgery. I'm back at hotel. I just had pieces of
pizza and soda. I am regretting. My tummy is like baloon now and it stretchs incision line, being scared by myself. It was too early ( I was to buy some bread but cafes closed 180 and I missed ) Now I realize how I was comfortably protected during hospital stay.
I hope it digests well, lying down watching Lost dvds. While lying down, it has almost no symptoms. When I try to sit on chair, I realize it needs a lot of adjustment to have a right posture because I am used to wrong posture which is to escape from pain / symptoms
I also realize how I am not knowledgeable about medicines. I don't know what I am having now at all. I will go to pharmacy tomorrow using cane (just being precautious ).
I am satisfied with the surgery itself

Justin, the front page looks great !

Wow, congratulations Ken. Now take the time to pamper your self, as they did for you in the hospital. It is hard to do that sometimes, but you found out that it is best
Severe compression of spinal cord, flaval ligament, etc. at C4/5 & 5/6.
Herniation and compression, at L3/4 to L5/S1 plus spondylosis at the latter level. Severe allergy to most metals.
Three level surgery in Brazil with Dr. Luiz Pimenta on March 17/2010 using non-metal appliances. L5/S1-PEEK cage, ALIF; L4/5-PEEK cage, XLIF; C5/6-NuVasive NeoDisc. Three separate approaches, two minimally invasive. Currently minor residual back pain, from SI ligament and still overdoing things . Therapy and chiropractic treatments helping immensely. Gone from being almost bedridden to near normal activities including gardening. Life is gooooood!

Try lying back partially sat up on the bed supported by pillows. One underneath my knees helps take the pressure off being laid flat. It will take a while to get comfortable sitting down. A rolled up towel can be useful as a lumbar support.

Hope you food goes down soon.

    Hi
day 2 from discharge. I could get to local pharmacy by myself and got tablets for 2 weeks. one is painkiller, the other is light muscle relaxant. I had fried rice for second time. first was before admittance and came with chicken. today with shrimps. the owner remembered me and I showed her my brace with thumb up. she looked happy. had a visitor in evening. it was one american gentleman who works for dr.b and he came to see if i was doing ok by myself in hotel. dr.b worried about me. we had a good talk. he helps american patients there.
sometimes I feel myself as too easy or carefree having pizza lying with baroon tummy while there are some with bad outcome. but I post for my record. thanks Justin for your PM.
tomorrow I will send several postcards telling my friends I am alive on the other side

It's great to read your updates, Ken. I have a couple of questions for you:
    • What would you rate your current pain (1 being no pain and 10 being the worst pain you've ever experienced)?
    • When are you traveling back home?
Now, it's time to relax and heal.

    Hi Justin,

    • What would you rate your current pain (1 being no pain and 10 being the worst pain you've ever experienced)? 1.5 I probably don't need any pain medication right now. it's day 6 after surgery.

    • When are you traveling back home? dr.b's secretary told me I can go back much earlier today. I have 30 day open ticket. probably beginning
    of February.

ah, Justin, I wrote to you I met Tim today. We talked a bit at the door and I let him come in to my room. I suggested him to have a seat. We talked a minute or two, sitting.
He asked me where my wife is ? He thought it was my wife who had lumbar ADR.
I told him I don't have wife and I am the patient. He didn't think I was the ADR patient and was quite surprised.

That sure sounds like good news. No pain meds, you are doing well.
So you will be on your way again in 1 week. Its a long trip, make sure you are comfortable sitting. 30 day open ticket that is a good strategy.
Nov 07: Fusion (Stalif) S1/L5, ADR L4/5 (Activ-L)for strong back and leg pain (Zeegers, Germany).
Nov 09: 2 level cervical ADR Prodisc-C (Nova) C4/5/6 to stop progression of cervical myleopathy. (Bertagnoli, Germany).
