Default L5/S1 Fusion with BMP in 2006, continued pain

Hi, I am a 55 year old young lady who had an accident in 2002 resulting in a life of pain ever since. It looks like I will be having an add on fusion very soon. I had an L-5 S1 fusion in 2006 with BMP (nightmare) and what I thought was the titanium cage. I just found out that my Dr. used platic T-Lifts? Anyway, it is so refreshing to find a site without connections to drug companies or endorsed by Dr.'s.I am hoping to get a second opinion soon but it is clear that my disk has no space left and I will have to do something. My former Dr. does not do an add on fusion so I am on a search- I have contacted John Hopkins and am waiting to hear back from them and a partner in my former Dr.'s practice.Any advise is welcome.

    History
Cervical fusion in 1995 with hip graft- no problems
accident slipping on car oil coming out of a store in 2002 resulting in 3 herniated disk
    diskectomy in 2003
    lots of steroid epiduerals
Fusion of L5 S1 in 2006 with BMP- Horrible pain since

Welcome to the forum and sorry you have to be here. This is a great place to research and to get support from others who understand what you are going through. Sounds like you are on the right track to getting help, second opinions are an excellent thing to do (even 3rd, 4th and 5th opinions- can't get too many) Best of Luck, Kathy

    Dear Melto,
Hello and welcome to the website. You will learn more from the folks here than you will from any other source. I am sorry you are looking at another surgery and dealing with pain. I ended up getting four opinions before having surgery nine months ago. I live near Nashville but traveled to Plano (Dallas) to see Dr. Jack Zigler at Texas Back Institute. When I was making my travel arrangements to fly to Dallas for a consult it felt a little extreme. I can tell you now, with that 20/20 hindsight, it was the RIGHT decision and not extreme at all. It IS your spine. Good luck getting through the muck and mire you are now dealing with on a daily basis. You are amongst friends here.

    Welcome melto9,

Glad you found us even though your circumstances for being here are less than desirable. We have much in common. I am a 58 year old female who also had an accident (bicycle) in June of 2001, and I have had numerous surgeries to address my chronic pain, only to result in being a failed back syndrome. (which I really haven't wanted to admit until now) I'm not sure what's next for me, nor of course, for you, but you have come to a terrific community at SPS, and I know you will find more support than you could shake a stick at here. Good luck with your next course of action. Regards, Cindylou
