Run- Glad you are doing well and having a good attitude about the not such fun things. You have been on a long road to get here and you definitely deserve it. After surgery is not a fun time and there are so many small things that we take for granted and then suddenly can't do.... it's definitely a humbling experience. Oh and anyone in the spine patient shoes who hasn't dealt with constipation issues is lying- LOL. Praying for you a great recovery.

    Kathy,

Thanks. I am not a saint by any admission, my husband was trying to get the boys to bed a few minutes ago and the older one was misbehaving and I got angry and got off the bed (and put my brace on).
For some reason, my older son wants to stay up until 11 or midnight. He and his brother need their rest. So I am putting some toys away and my husband says, "Don't bend".

Grrrrrr...that is the frustrating part. Well the two are in bed and each traded a few blows and scratches on the way there. So my older one hits the young one and my little one screams bloody murder and cries and the older one says, "I didn't do that on purpose".

Whoever invented the continuous ice machine is tops in my world; nothing like chilling when you were a bit over-heated.
This is why, as many week days as possible, those boys go off to sports practice.
So they don't have the energy to fight at night.

I might as well get used to this since I am not taking the car out for a whirl for some weeks. Last time when i tried to drive without bending or twisting, it was virtually impossible.

Now, I am going to get ready to watch some Vampire Diaries, season 1.

The story of my life... kids fighting at least. I swear some days all I do is break up their continuous beatings of each other.

    HI, Alison,

Lost a good portion of how I am doing that I wrote yesterday.
    (dumb, thought it was saved).

    I am doing okay,
Hope you are doing okay too.

    Part I (after surgery)

    Alison,

Funny you ask me that question.
I have been meaning to get on here, but I keep falling asleep or get carried away doing something else.

Last Friday, I woke up with chills and my oldest daughter and I spent the morning and early afternoon watching ocean movies. She is taking Marine Ecology in college and she needed to watch movies like planet Blue. Maybe it was the ocean scenes in Alaska, but I had a sweat shirt on and my daughter was wondering why I said it was cold when it was not.
I dismissed her but she kind of knows me.

So she said that I fell asleep during one of the movies and then woke up with a start, saying I felt warm.
I checked my temperature and it was an unconcerned 99.4 and jumped to a still-not-remarkable 99.7 (fahrenheit) shortly after.

I went to lay down in my comfortable hospital bed and rest. At some point, checking that temp again and it was 100.7 and I felt like I was getting hotter. And I started getting concerned because I had no signs of a cold or the flu. No runny nose or scratchy throat. No signs of a sinus infection.

So it was a Friday and my surgeon's office sometimes closes at noon but I know the phones may shut down, but often the staff is there.
I was thinking if there was going to be a problem, it better happen soon. Then my temperature hit 101.1, then 101.3 and then bouncing back to 101.1. (101.0 is the magical number where I am supposed to call doc).

By that time, I was already on the phone and luckily the after hours person put me through to the office after I told her that I was 3 1/2 weeks post surgery and was running a temp without any signs of a cold/flu. The office person, who knows me well, said she would call the surgery nurse for the office (who happens to be my doc's wife) and have her call me back.
I was relieved that I got through. I kind of knew that my doctor and his family were on vacation.

It seemed like it took a long time and I grew impatient, thinking they might have taken my daughter's number down wrong and called back, giving them my daughter's phone number for the second time. More wait and then my daughter, who thankfully had taken charge, got the call from the nurse.

My daughter told me the message was to: Go straight to the ER and don't drink anything or eat anything or take any medications. I was told to bring my medication list and myself.
My daughter, who was supposed to go back to her college campus to do some things, made me No. 1 priority and we were out of the house in a flash.

I didn't bring much of anything with me, save for my novel, I have been trying to finish, and my med list, insurance cards, wallet and sweatshirt.

Where have you been? We've been wondering how recovery was going. The PT is a good sign I hope.

    Hi Runagain,

I recently joined this site, and just read through your whole thread. You have been through so much through the years! I really appreciate

all the posts that you have done, very informative. Sorry to hear that you are going through a hard time right now, but hope that PT has been beneficial.

I am scheduled to have my ADR (Maverick) at L5/S1 on Feb 6th, so have been very interested in your thread.

Wishing you all the best. You have worked so hard and gone through so much, I hope that your surgery is a complete success( I am sure that as I have heard, and will soon experience, it is a slow recovery) but you will get through it!

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
